this is a business, and we are the product being sold to the ads. if you keep the product happy, you'll sell more ads. it's beneficial...

I'd wager it'd be best to remove +/- from the comments altogether. Give it red numbers and green numbers. Agree/disagree. Save +/- for posts

I disagree that we should ditch the 'hide' function entirely, but I'm sympathetic to making the threshold much lower. Like -20 or so.

Ok, got a new idea. How about as long as you are + then count viral as upvotes + downvotes. That way a downvote would help you as an upvote!
