Four long years!
This is Tucker, who we adopted in late 2011 as a kitten. This story, hopefully, shouldn't make you cry. However, what I'm hoping to give you is something else. Tucker was a rambunctious little kitty when we first brought him home. He was a talkative one, you could hear his meows at the earliest of hours, almost like an alarm clock. He was an adventerous soul, he always wanted to see the outdoors, whether it meant a car ride to the vet, or a sneaky escape when we weren't paying attention.
However, even when he made his sneaky escapes, he would always find his way back to us. We didn't pay any mind to it at the time, but we were more careful at watching the door before we opened it. But one day we hadn't seen Tucker for an entire day, usually he is way more social, always rubbing up against you, wanting treats. We figured he got outside, so we went on a miniature manhunt to find him. We scoured our neighborhood attempting to find him, even going door to door, asking if anyone had seen a giant grey fluffball walking around. Apparently he was more of a ninja than we thought, because no one had seen any sign of him.
After countless searches and hundreds of lost cat posters we eventually assumed the worst. Our lives immediately became more empty, there was no friendly greeting when we woke up, no rambunctious little fluffball running around. Three months later, we got another cat, that looked very similar to Tucker, and we named him Jeremy. He had a similar attitude to Tucker, but he was more laid back. Four years went by, we still had Jeremy, and we had almost forgotten about Tucker, when suddenly our phone rang. It was the Humane Society, and they said that a young man brought in a grey cat named Whiskers (this was his original name when we adopted him as kitten). We were in shock, we really couldn't believe this, and we thought they might have got the wrong cat.
The day after the call, we raced down to the Humane Society. They had us fill out some forms, and we got to see Tucker for the first time in four years. He looked miserable, but who wouldn't be if they were surrounded by barking dogs 24/7. They told us he had a bite wound on his right paw, which healed nicely over the last few days they had him. We were so overjoyed at the site of him, I mean four long years and he managed to give life the finger and survive this long on his own. The kind veternarian put him in a cat carrier and had us fill out some more paperwork for some flea medicine he was prescribed.
Eventually, we got him home, and this is where you see him now in the photo above I just took as I'm writing this insanely long story. We showered him in treats, especially catnip which you can see he absolutely loves. He made himself comfortable, and now my only problem is introducing him to our other animals, two cats and one dog. However, he has known one of the cats for a while before he went missing all that time ago. If you read this far, good on you, you might've picked out the moral of this story. I hope you enjoyed reading! :)
However, for those of you who hate reading: Never give up hope, no matter how long it's been, good things are just around the corner.
