Went to a highland games in the US. Found one of the clans my family descends from. Mentioned it to them… “Well sign up!” “Uh… It’s a pretty distant relation… I’m more closely related to clan ____”. “Doesn’t matter! You’re welcome here!” No idea why they were so adamant, but it felt nice to be so welcomed.
