So...my buddy and I are drinking beers. Yesterday morning I was out on my walk, and during that walk I found these. 3 of them. They were in the gutter, but I recognized them from the Superstore. Tim says they're ugly as hell and not food. I insist they are. He says..."Eat it!". So I cut into one, bite it. Tastes like watermelon, feels like avacado. He bites it. Throws up for 10 minutes. Really upset. I assure him its an ugly fruit....it is not. What the fuck did we eat? I'm laughing (ex-miltary), he's....upset (civilian).

Yeah. Hedge apples. They're definitely not food, except allegedly the seeds after they're peeled.

Apparently in Texas they are called horse apples. I've never heard these other names before. I learned a thing.

We call 'em "Monkey balls" in Ohio. Put a couple in your basement and they'll keep your house (relatively) bug free until they rot.

Well call em that in pa too!

Did you think they were cherimoya?

Possibly. It looked familiar. I may have been slighty compromised.

I swear to you. I thought it was the same fruit as I saw at a high end Grocery. Although... I joined infantry at 18...so you're not wrong.

Well, you CAN find these at grocery stores. They're just not food.

The tree it came from (osage orange) is one of the best woods out there for making a bow, if you ever get into archery.

Great wood.

I was Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletics (OFSSA) Recurve champion 1993. I love traditional bows. Thanks for the heads up.
