The memory card is probably corrupted. If it does the same thing with different cards, the camera isn't writing to the cards properly.

If it does it again or starts to do it more often should I switch the sim and see if it continues to do it to try and rule out the card?

No, the sim card only holds your phone plan info and sometimes a few phone numbers. It's like your phone's ID card for the phone networks.
