My German cousin once said that "Leavenworth is more Bavarian than Bavaria" lol

I think the best part is the awkward confidence

I went there for a romantic getaway with my wife at the time. Had sex in a hot tub, surrounded by snow. Never doing hot tub sex again. It sucks. Lol. Sounds hot, but terrible for lubrication.

Y'all... I know there is more to Germany than just Bavaria... I worked all over Germany for a nice long stretch, I'm calling Leavenworth "Fake Germany" because that's what me and my ex-German co-workers used to lovingly call Leavenworth when we would talk about it 😂

She almost fell over while sober, if she's doing German Heritage properly she'll be far too tipsy to try again.

I mean, Braverian. But same same.
My oldest friend from back in my school days lives pretty close to there and talks about how cool the place is sometimes

Thanks for showcasing Leavenworth for the rest of the internet 👏. Looks just as delightful as I remember!

The only thing that keeps highway 2 relevant is that kitchy pseudo-Bavarian village. It's so much easier getting in & out of the 509 on I-90. And yet I cannot wait to visit next time I'm home again.

Eh, there's a ton of great hiking and MTBiking off hwy 2. Rafting also!

I live a bit over an hour away and I love to head up there and visit to get some schnitzel!

I wish we had gone to the one Mexican restaurant in Leavenworth just because.

Damn, I recognize you from just the first couple frames showing you from the back in a frilly skirt. I probably need to stop browsing.

4 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, it's not the first frames, just what the preview shows, either way, nice.

That place is beautiful. I need to go back this winter to see all the lights again.

4 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're beautiful. Inside and out. It looks like you had fun. Good on you.

As a German this is so outrageously fake looking i took several double takes.

Loved Leavenworth back when I lived in WA! Such a fun place. Down here in Cali, we also have Solvang which is similar and pretty cool.

I loved going to the Leavenworth area in the winter. Family use to rent a cabin up near Lake Wenatchee and we would visit Leavenworth for a day.

The summer? The area has the biggest freaking mosquitos. Literally can bite through your jeans.

I see what you did with your username

Glad somebody caught it… Yeah, auch is also in German 😂

I'd since learned that the German I was taught in high school is extremely formal, on top of being outdated by 20 years at the time I was learning it in the 90s. Instead of "I don't speak good German", we learned, "Es tut mir leid, abet mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut", or, "I'm sorry, my German isn't very good"

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Native speaker here, wouldn't consider that particularly outdated, nor overly formal. You probably wouldn't raise any eyebrows using that in Germany, at least not in my area. But "Sorry, mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut" would probably also work.

I didnt think that one was, but it did feel "wordy" to me.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's just German for you. There's a reason why a lot of German translations of English language books are sold as two (sometimes three) books, instead of one. And it isn't *just* the incessant greed of the publishers :p

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

German has its "vebose" setting permanently stuck at "Ultra Extreme Experimental (DO NOT USE!)". They also love compounding words in ways that are breathtaking and death-defying to us non-native speakers. It's complex in a way that few other languages are. There are 3 genders for nouns (male, female, and neutral), and several different ways of pluralizing them, and it's all arbitrary what is "correct" for any given noun. It's a slog to learn, and difficult to pronounce at all correctly.

Not all of Germany is that very specific (trans)alpine region of Bavaria...

1 month ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 3

Except that the town is nestled in the mountains much like the Bavarian alps. It all makes sense in a weird, highly touristy way.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It was designed mostly for tourists, so the feel and tone was more important than realism, and it's not particularly out of place with the ski resorts in the area. This is just the touristy part of town though

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Psst...the town wasn't made by Germans at all! It was a design choice, entirely for tourism reasons. Worked great though!

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Next you'll tell me Winthrop wasn't made by cowboys smh

4 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Of course, but “Fake Germany” is a funnier title lol

1 month ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

I mean its still accurate. Like even compared to that alpine region it feels very much like a theme park city from the clips you showed!

4 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm fully convinced that all Safeways in Germany look like that one in Leavenworth.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There are no Safeways!

4 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically correct, then! That's what I was hoping for (and expecting)

4 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Although I think it's a divide by zero situation :)
