Texas congressman Keith Self (R) says people who think 'prayers aren't cutting it' as a solution to gun violence 'don't believe in an almighty god who is absolutely in control of our lives.' 9 people died in a mass shooting in his district today.

If God has some grand plan for victims of gun violence making gun legislation unnecessary/useless, why legislate reproductive health care?

Yes because as we all know, it is in God's plan to have a psycho come your child's school and shoot them in cold blood for no reason. It's also in God's plan to have absolutely nothing come from this other then "welp we couldn't stop it!" Just as must it's in God's plan to have your child raped and forced to carry another child, even if it was their father/uncle/brother that raped them. REMEMBER, IT'S ALL IN GOD'S PLAN, AND WE SHOULDN'T CHANGE THAT

He's not wrong. I don't believe in an almighty god who has absolute control over my life. I fail to see how that's at all relevant to him doing his fucking job.

So, Keith, since—despite all those prayers—God has not stopped the ever-increasing gun deaths, are you saying those gun deaths are God's will? Or are you saying the non-believers expert more influence over your God than your own prayers do? Either way, weird argument to take.

So the deal is, we all hold Representative Asshole accountable for his statements and repeatedly point out on his Twitter feed that God Himself disagrees with him on this issue.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Almighty God has absolute control of our lives, so almighty God is commanding the cold blooded murder of school children?

"Our bullshit does not work because people don't believe in it"... well... he's not wrong.

Every religion fosters the mentality of "if you don't like something, it's b/c you screwed up and an all-powerful is punishing you. But, if you do like something, it's because the all-powerful likes what you're doing" .. and the religious person in charge uses that to push their own agenda. Aztec rulers did it with good and bad crop seasons. If crops were good, it's b/c the citizens were good. If the crops were bad, the citizens brought it upon themselves, so pay penance and obey the king.

As opposed to 'All the evil things that happen are due to human free will.' These people are absolute morons that constantly have to lie to maintain their worldview - which is why the GOP is so despicable.

Heard this live. I stopped washing dishes and stared at the TV. I have never heard such dumb shit said on live TV. Fucking morons things their imaginary friend is gonna save us magically. Idiots.

"God is in absolute control over all of our lives." Guy knows you cant be held accountable if its gods whim and not yours. Religion is a joke. People need to stop using it as an excuse to ignore progress. Besides what happened to the seperation of church and state for fucks sake??

Funny that's also their answer to the climate disaster "If the planet gets really screwed, skydaddy will swoop in and save us"

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why have politicians if it’s all god’s will? Just let god run the world. Clearly he has everyone’s best interests in mind. /s

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That's what the gerrymandering is for, to ensure god's chosen people are the ones leading, not the heathens.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

God cannot be both all good and all powerful. Childhood cancer, hunger, diseases, earthquakes are all evidence that he is not both. If he’s all powerful, he’s choosing not to stop these things from happening, therefore he is not all good. If he’s incapable of stoping these things, he’s not all powerful. I believe if there was a god who created us, he is either dead or has abandoned us and it is now up to us to do what is right and good.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’ll be great when these idiots realize that god abandoned us long ago. And guess what, he’s not coming to save them

God never existed.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Then your bullshit god needs to come down and make their case. Not through you - them. Until then, fuck off.

It's an excuse to do NOTHING! Fuck these Bronze Age Goatherder Make-believe worshippers!

3 years ago | Likes 138 Dislikes 1

3rd commandment isn't against "God Damn" it's against using "God" or prayers instead of taking action. He's literally ignoring one of the prime directives these people pretend are soooo important.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They've ignored pretty much all of them, all the time, for decades now.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that's insulting to goat herder man

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

It wasn't the goat herders that wrote this shit. It was the people trying to control the goat herders and live off them like parasites.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not an excuse to do nothing. It's an excuse to do worse than nothing and to enact measures that will make this sort of thing more likely in the goal of polarising their base and getting out their vote.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well clearly they didn't think "thoughts and prayers" were enough when it came to abortions and trans people. If they didn't value hypocrisy, they'd value nothing at all.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

God needs to be fired.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If your “almighty God” is in control, he’s either a psychopath or a drunk because he’s doing a shit job. If they think gunning down children is all God’s plan, I assume they won’t mind sacrificing their own children for the cause and leaving everyone else’s alone?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I guess god loves dead children in America.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why so limited? God has killed millions of children in Africa with aids not to mention malaria and child soldiering. God has a massive boner for dead babies globally tbh.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"God wanted you to die. Vote for me!" is a pretty strange strategy. Shame it'll absolutely fucking work.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

TLDR; you did not pray hard enough

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If he's in control he needs to be replaced by someone who gives a shit about the lives if children. Your God is letting children be murdered

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

According to that same religion, God is fine with them being molested and raped too. God clearly either is a worse piece of shit than they are, doesn't exist, or got fed up and left. And regardless of which option is true, this nutjob needs to be yeeted into the sun and replaced by literally anything more intelligent than he is. I'm sure someone has a gerbil handy.

Journalism fail to not immediately follow up with "And you do? So you're saying God made the shooter do this?"

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is when they evoke the magical evil monster at war with God. Anything bad was that guy's fault, and your fault for not praying harder.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But mostly your fault. If only you prayed more and believed harder... shame on you (/s)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then God is not absolutely in control.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"He's testing us!" "God helps those who help themselves!" and on and on and on with the BS nonsense

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If God is in absolute control he decides whether or not we help ourselves.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck your thoughts and fuck your prayers. It’s past time for regulation

3 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

They're literally blaming god before they'll blame guns now

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ban the military grade tools for mass killing at range. That means anything with a clip, my dear gun luvers.

Yoink

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So either God isn’t all-powerful or God caused/allowed all these mass shootings.

Yes, their logic isn't great
