I always enjoyed batman as the world's greatest detective. The batman who beats up on poor people and does ethically questionable things because its better than the alternative is a shit character. And you can't fault people for using the films and tv shows as a basis because not everyone wants to or is able to parse through 80+ years of comics to become a fucking batman scholar. This is how he is being portrayed and this is what it looks like through a modern lens.
Sounds like OP has never read a single Batman comic in his life. Through the Martha Wayne Foundation, Bruce Wayne has used his money to support thousands of charities in Gotham, from affordable housing to employment opportunities, free healthcare clinics, he even funds Pamela Isley & Victor Fries' (legal) research ventures in an effort to keep them off the path of crime.

It seems he doesn't know enough about batman but anyone who chooses to put the mentally ill into an asylum instead of killing them or putting them in jail is a step ahead of the cops.
There's also the fact he runs dozens of charities out of his own pockets and have very clearly gone up against multiple industrialists and super capitalists over the decades.
What we're seeing is The Batman Transference Principle, a thing that I totally just made up. Back when the Michael Keaton Batman came out, people were like "Batman? Like the Adam West show?" because that's all they knew, but it was a different sort of Batman that non-comic book people remember. Now, people are like "Fuck Batman and his rich ass" because they're not up on the newer lore about how much Wayne helps the city financially.

But yes, Batman saved the UN after they got kidnapped and dehydrated into dust, but then when he rehydrated them, they all had the voices and mannerisms of a different country. Man, that was great.
if iirc, Robin sneezed and mixed up the people-dust, he thought he killed everyone. Batman managed to separate the mixed up particles, for the most part.
