Gehm's Corollary: "Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced."

Should be, "Professor I am not using ChatGPT, I am just autistic. That is how I talk."

The funny thing is that the Clarke quote is where we already are with people and "AI". Marketing has been the primary driver of the false narrative that there is actual AI. At best we have what can be referred to as some "narrow AI" systems, but nothing that even approaches AGI or ASI, no matter what the hypesters say. So many people think we've arrived, when we're still just weaving down the road. There's highly promising stuff, but it's in areas most people aren't even aware of.

100% true. But things are suddenly moving extremely fast. Most departments that work on these LLMs are currently facing budgets one could only dream of. Expect major changes in areas where the use of LLMs makes actual sense (and in areas where you wouldn't expect it). AI isn't ba thing to be honest. I keep calling these prompts "the bot" or "the algorithm". They are powerful tools in the hands of those who know how to use them.

Funny, but sadly not true. There are people out there who are so brainwashed, semiliterate and godforsaken stupid that you can tell they're not a LLM because they make so much less sense than your average ChatGPT-generated text.

I despise commenting. So thank you for noticing the user is the stupid one the llm is just a large language model. It has no agency. AI hate is misattributed people hate.

And my favorite: "Sufficiently understood magic is indistinguishable from science" - Agatha Heterodyne, Girl Genius

Thinking of Brandon Sanderson’s hard magic systems and the fact that as he advances the Mistborn eras, they are building science advancements based on their magic.

I'm personally a fan of, "Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice."

Love that comic. Fantastic stuff

Ooh, I hadn't heard this. I like it. Reminds me of Sanderson's Stormlight series (he portrays some of the characters like scientists studying what WE would call magic).

I always dig that sort of world building. Way too many people just have their tech stagnate or just be locked in some medieval feudalism, when it comes to fantasy. Fucking love when folk actually treat it as a living, evolving, technology. Like, yeah, Greymare the Great can teleport, cool, how does that effect the world at large? Does him spreading the magic lead to a revolution in messaging across the realms? Does that have further knock on effects with other tech?
