Today I realized... 

So usually when my dog paces and pants at night, it's because he has to go potty or the wind monsters are howling outside – because he generally needs some kind of help / action from his humans. He is very polite and will come to the bedside and pant there instead of yowling or doing something overtly loud to wake us up. Today I realized that he spent most of the night watching over me, his coming to my bedside a few times this night was because he must have registered I had a fitful sleep (with lots of weird dreams). I noticed my dogs' interest in me a few times during the night. As soon as I got up, he went to sleep peacefully.

This must be obvious to most people (that's what dogs were for originally) but he was my pup until what feels like yesterday, now he is a big boy.
Just wanted to share my proud "mama" moment.
