Steak day!

Feb 22, 2025 8:37 PM

Today I decided to make seitan steaks marinated in Kinder's Japanese BBQ sauce

I pan fried them until they were nice golden color

I used avocado oil

Normally you have to make a dough ball out of flour, then rinse it in clean water, empty the water, refill it with clean water, rinse it again, dump the water, refill the water etc until most of the starch is gone.

I used a time-saving step by using Bob's Red Mill vital gluten flour. With this method, all you have to do is add water, seasonings, and mix it all up. Refrigerate for about an hour and then it's ready to go. You can stick unused portions back in the fridge for later use.

This is what it looks like after refrigerating it for an hour. Basically all of the protein, none of the artery hardening cholesterol. Super easy to make and extremely affordable! Now I'm looking forward to barbecue season once all this snow melts outside!

**pet tax** My senior rescue has been very clingy ever since his brother Shadow died. I've been giving him all the love and care until we are able to adopt a couple more friends for him <3 https://imgur.com/gallery/zZe9BKK

Seitan is great if you lightly braise it in stock or broth first.

Oh, I'm not against seitan...or tofu, hummus, whatever. I'm an omnivore. I just don't conflate those things with meat. It's not a tofurky, it's roasted tofu...etc.. Something like vegan meatloaf is an oxymoron...to me. It's just loaf.

Meatless things just get meat like names so people know what to expect. Call it a steak, you know what size and shape it is. Call it a meatloaf, you know what other ingredients will be in it.
