GET OUT
99% Rotten Tomatoes

The best horror/psychological thriller of the year. So well made, tense, exciting, and features Rod, the smartest character in a horror movie maybe in movie history. I was on the edge of my seat with excitement the whole time.

BAND AID
84% Rottentomatoes

At times it's a bit too much on the nose, but this was still an achingly funny movie about a couple learning to cope with a miscarriage by forming a band. The music is wonderful and the director Zoe Lister-Jones also stars in the lead role with such a raw talent.

TONI ERDMANN
92% Rottentomatoes

Technically it came out last year but it wasn't released in America until January. Quirky as they come - this was a 3 hour German comedy in which a jokester father tries to get to know his uptight daughter by donning a wig and fake teeth and following her around on a work trip under the disguise of "Toni Erdmann." It's absolutely bonkers.

I, DANIEL BLAKE
92% Rottentomatoes

Another release from last year that didnt hit the states until this month. A down on his luck widower faces problems applying for work after suffering a heart attack. He befriends a single mom with two kids who is also on the brink of poverty. It's a commentary on a failing government system as well as the basic rights of human dignity.

THE RED TURTLE
94% Rottentomatoes

A beautiful animated film told with no dialogue that is as much mysterious as it is gorgeous to look at. A man is deserted on an island and kills a turtle that lurks around the island. He then encounters a mysterious woman and begins a new life with her. What is reality and what is not?

MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI
100% Rottentomatoes

Another animated European gem about orphans living in a small halfway house, eagerly waiting for their adoption. It's a love story and also a story that is full of hope. The animation and style is bizarre but once you look past it the movie is a masterpiece.

LOGAN
93% Rottentomatoes

The best superhero movie of the year, maybe one of the best ever. It's a gritty finale to this X-Men staple. Set in the near future, the world is stripped down and the plot is essentially that of a Western with clear cut villains and action. It's a remarkable achievement.

A QUIET PASSION
93% Rottentomatoes

This is the best-written movie of the year so far, no doubt. It's the story of Emily Dickinson as she lives out the later years of her life, writing her poetry and dealing with the ever-aging family she shares a home with. Cynthia Nixon is perfect, but it's the writing that stars. Each and every scene is perfectly written, absolutely necessary for the story, and packs layers and layers in the most simply dialogue. It's a joy to hear the English language so cleverly used.

YOUR NAME
98% Rottentomatoes

This is the most impressive anime I have ever seen. Hands down. It's a weird story about a boy and girl who mysteriously switch bodies and live out each others lives, even though they have never met and don't know anything about the other. The movie starts off as a 'Freaky Friday' like comedy and ends with an emotional punch that left me devastated, tears running down my face.

Your name (kimi no na wa) was fantastic!!

I loved Get Out because of all the psychological build-up. The attention to detail was also incredible, and the casting was sick (Keener!)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Get Out was the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Get Out is the most overrated film of the year. It surely doesn't deserve 99%, the story has stupid plotholes and "in your face" symbolism.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I feel like rotten tomatoes is run by a bunch of mecha hipsters who only care about satisfying their propaganda

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

mecha hipsters? like hipsters piloting giant robots? or hipsters that are giant robots?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Both. Giant robot hipster piloting even bigger robots.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck you @OP Your Name had me bawling like a child

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

did you watch it on my recommendation?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, and it blew my mind. I bit my lip out of frustration, wailed like a child and laughed like a madman all in less than two hours.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're whalecum

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really like Free Fire. Here's the trailer https://youtu.be/csH3FUfRiSg

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought it was really good as well.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get out was a retarded movie.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I heard Get Out isn't really all that good.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I tried watching Toni Erdmann. Fell asleep for about 15 mins then watched it some more and finally turned it off after 90 mins or so.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

-Using rotten tomatoes ratings, get out movie. LOL

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

Get Out was surprisingly good. I rarely enjoy that type of 'horror' movie.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Wow, a lot of Get Out hate here. I finally watched it yesterday. Didn't live up to the hype but I liked it.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 8

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Really 50/50 on it, but to call it "The best horror/psychological thriller of the year" is kinda silly.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

50/50 on the other hand; great movie

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Get out was painful, this movie was named by a critic. "Get out" of the fuckin theater now, and get your money back

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 29

Ahh i see you have attracted the horde of people who for some reason cant seem to grasp that rotten tomatoes is an aggregate site for 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

reviews, not a single movie reviewing website.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One of the better movie lists I've seen

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 6

Didn't care for Get Out personally. Thought it was just a decent Twilight Zone episode. TSA friend was the best part.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

You should watch the Carmichael show if only for that guy. Very funny dude

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get out was ok, but really a 99%. It doesn't deserve that.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Why does anyone even use rotten tomatoes? Weren't they giving shitty ratings for good movies? Plus they gave Sharknado the whole 9 yards.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

The opposite. 90+% ratings for terrible movies. See: Ghostbusters 2016.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I, Daniel Blake is the best movie I've ever seen. +1

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I humbly suggest King Arthur. Thought it'd be shit, ended up being my favorite movie this year. Guy Ritchie is a genius director.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yea it was so good! The score was great

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's so so so off the original legends, I don't think I can appreciate it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If I had known it was a Guy Ritchie take on it, I would have seen it sooner. If you like his other movies, you'll love this one IMO

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really like his ROCK N ROLLA movie, so many good actors in it. Will give this a go.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one not in love with Logan?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

i thought it was nice ot have an R rated X-man film

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was really good. Not the best superhero movie ever but still really good imo

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What would you say is the best? Considering how varied the superhero movie genre is, it's kinda hard to rate one better over the others.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The dark Knight, or the dark Knight rises definitely. Can't pick between those two really, ill have to watch again to do that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

1/2 Personally I feel those two movies have glaring issues that harm the flow and tone of the movie. Logan feels tighter and more unique.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 While all Dark Knight and Logan are great movies, I feel like Logan has less flaws in its writing and characters.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The characters, the dialog, and simply how the movie looked was brilliant. I've heard of the plot holes but it was still a gripping story

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Loved 'Logan', but honestly 'Superhero film' isn't the best way to describe it. Technically it is, but that puts such an onus on it.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

And it definitely isn't a better "superhero" movie than wonder woman, I'd you're gonna label it that way

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Wonder Woman was an actual superhero movie where the point was "Wonder Woman does heroic things because shes a good person". Different films

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's my point, Logan was about a superhero it wasnt a "superhero movie." More of a memorial in honor of hugh Jackman

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Oooh gotcha!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Based on my downvotes I think I worded it wrong

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh...i dunno...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly, 'superhero film' shouldn't be the genre. 'Superhero' should be a plot element, with much more diverse genre options. (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I like the Dark Knight film in that it plays more like a sweeping crime thriller, like the movie Heat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That exact reason is why I like The Winter Soldier so much.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's also a good example!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unbreakable did it years ago, and there are other older examples, and Logan is following in that tradition.(2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The Arrival was the shit.

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 4

I hear it was extremely popular at the Defense Language Institute. Having been there, I can completely understand why. Loved the movie.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Amy Adams snaps my heart in half in every movie she's in, I would follow her through the dessert carrying a bag of salt.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except Leap Year duh.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Get out sucked

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 29

Well, it didn't suck, but it's certainly overrated tbqh famalam.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

I guess you can say it should Get Out of this list

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

YOUR NAME was great. I laughed, cried, and even yelled at the screen in frustration. If you like animated films, watch it!

9 years ago | Likes 352 Dislikes 5

The music, performed by RADWIMPS, is awesome too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No one left with dry eyes at the cinema.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How would I watch it? I don't really feel comfortable with buying it off ebay.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey thanks!!! Totally worth it!!! I am crying right now thanks!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I watched it on a plane on my way to the USA and somebody asked me if I was ok.... I was not.

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

was watching it with a friend of mine online while we were in a call.had to mute my mic for a couple min so that she wouldn't hear me cry.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

My ex had to do the same, thought she fell asleep because she went completely quiet. She unmuted during the credits and was sobbing, heh.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I loved that one! The little sister was hilarious

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haven't seen it, but you've pretty much talked me into it already.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Its also a great place to start if youve never seen any. The drawing style is also among the best ive ever seen

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

If you like the drawing style I highly recommend "The Garden of Words" it's also just a great movie in general.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know of it, i was gonna watch it but never found the time. Now that i have tho, ive picked up initial d instead.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where can I watch it? (Legally/in a manner to support the creators)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(or possibly even in a not so legally manner..?)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been waiting for what feels like a year for it to come out on BD in the EU...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I yelled at the screen at the end because I wanted them to do the thing BUT THEY DIDN'T. Fucking love that movie.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your name is also great :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sounds like a good movie for my next acid trip

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You watch movies on acid? I'm not trying to tell you how to enjoy your highs but man, climb a tree sometime when rolling. Way cool

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

depends on my mood. sometimes i want to be engrossed in a story and let my imagination run wild with it. sometimes i wanna hike with buds

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Terminology: trip on acid, roll on ecstasy (rebranded as 'molly')

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically true but it all just means high af honestly haha

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wanted to but missed my chance when it was played at an animation festival in my country. Found that out two months too late :(

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Everything was great except for the shamelessly soap-operatic drawn out ending. Fuck that ending.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I enjoyed it a lot as well, but I thought it should have ended slightly differently. I made a video to show the ending I wanted (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I would have accepted this ending as well.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But well thou...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is the guy from Get Out the same actor as the one from the Black Mirror episode about the talent show?

9 years ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 3

Yeah! I have high hopes for this guy in the industry.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes!

9 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1

His name is Gee Butter Snaps.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Yep! He's also in a truly underrated comedy/horror show called Psychoville that's on UK Netflix.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That episode haunts me

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Same! I watched a couple more episodes but that was my favorite and most disturbing one. I can't bring myself to watch anymore tho.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It messed me with me so thoroughly that I couldn't watch any more!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

holy shit it is!? I'm definitely watching it now. I've been skeptical but that is my favorite BM episode.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He is also in Sicario and Johnny English Reborn

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thats right, he is!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He also played in an episode of Doctor Who

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yessir. Great actor I might add.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The one who cant dance for shit, but can pedal like a mofo, yes

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That episode of BM broke me hard.

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

What does that mean? It "broke you hard," what does that actually MEAN?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"The Entire History of You" those two fucked me up pretty badly

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean, it's pretty bad but, have you SEEN the other seasons? imo they were way more depressing.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

shut up and dance

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

yep. that one fucked me up bad.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

White Bear.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A Silent voice is also pretty dope. Almost on par with Your Name.

9 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

Both made me cry in the dark cinema so get some tissues ready

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try Sky Crawlers for another tear jerker. Left me feeling empty inside, but be warned it's pretty damn long.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*puts it on the agenda*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thought it ended abruptly but damn was it good.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm dying to watch it, can't find it anywhere here in the US

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kissanime and 9anime have it subbed for streaming. I was so eager that I downloaded it and awful Engrish subs the day the Blu-ray released

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I checked like two months ago so I'll check the sites I use again. Can't use Kissanime anymore because they blocked the VPN I use

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Finally saw it in theaters a few weeks ago after reading the manga, so amazing!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you're one of those rotten tomatoes whores.

9 years ago | Likes 170 Dislikes 32

its actually pronounced 'tomathoes'

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Fuck Rotten Tomatoes

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They prefer the term "tomato trollop".

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

@carrotsoup

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love shitty movies

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That some sort std?

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

Only if you're a tomato

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I prefer to call them Bad Apples

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's actually pronounced 'tomatoes'

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

Oh so you're British?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You guys should call the whole thing off.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Would you rather IMDB?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How about seeing the fucking movie yourself and forming your own opinion.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No i definitely definitely agree. But still. Id rather rt than imdb.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'd rather not go to either site.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think this website is quite often unfair to really good movies.

*the right kind of "artsy"

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean, it just aggregates reviews, it doesn't rate movies on its own.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am talking about their "tomato meter" where critics have a say.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know. I'm just saying, it's just an aggregate of the opinion of other reviewers that aren't associated with the site in any way.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could you give examples?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fluke 1995, Equilibrium 2002.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kubo and the two strings?

9 years ago | Likes 254 Dislikes 27

Last fall is when that came out. Also eh

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of it either

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

It was beautiful. Amazing clay work. But the plot and the Beetle thing ruined it for me

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The story was so bad and made absolutely no sense. The ending was horrible and tied nothing together. Only the stop motion was any good tbh.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good suggestion but the title suggests films from this year, no?

9 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

"suggests" might be an understatement.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's the best movie OP has seen this year, not films from this year.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That's why I said "title suggests" or w/e. In fairness, I saw Kubo about a month ago for the first time. double perfect score, 10/7

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me immediately after posting: wait, what's today? (Trying to mentally figure out how long ago Kubo was released)

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Highly underrated movie

9 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 6

In my opinion highly overrated. It was decent but the whole ending sequence was lame and melodramatic. Killed the rest of the movie for me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

No it's not. 97% on RT is underrated? If anything it was overrated. Stunningly beautiful, but the plot and writing were pretty uninspiring.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I think the writing was good, but the plot was pretty basic. Children's movie after all

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not underrated in any way. It has nothing but good reviews.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Not underrated, but definitely undermarketed.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

underrated as in the public hardly gave it any attention despite the good reviews

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've seen nothing but good reviews I dunno

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That movie is beautiful.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yet so simple and new

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The ending was *slightly* disappointing compared to the rest of the movie, but it really is fantastic overall.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Just an opinion but i dont believe kubo was any good to be acknowleged for nominatons :| it was weird and cringey.... -sets up blast shields

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

do you realize it was claymation and not cgi?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Omg its like i didnt realize that after watching the movie :OOO. Claymation doesnt give it auto-5star status. I didnt like the story.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have no idea what point they were trying to make with it being claymation and not CGI

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why does that matter?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0
