How does one effectively satirize fascism, though? Any moral value held by good people is inverted. While we'd recoil and laugh, they'd cheer. Their only virtue is power. Mel Brooks had a recipe for it, to my knowledge, by making them look silly and ineffectual, but I don't get that feeling from what I've seen of Helldivers.
It’s like starship troopers or robocop. Both drip with satire but not everyone sees/gets it. To the masses they’re just action movies. Helldivers, within the game has the same vibe. Unfortunately with as popular as it is, the majority of players are doing eagle screeches and yelling “Democracy!!”. The over the top “managed democracy” the game has in it makes me chuckle, doesn’t hurt that it’s fun to play with friends though. The community from what I’ve experienced is not toxic at all.

Seeing people unironically pumped about the fascism in a piece of (supposed) satire is disappointing, as always.

The satire is the icing on the cake of that game
