Poor Plank wouldn't last 30 seconds in a forest fire.

I don't mean to sound crude, but it's a strangely beautiful picture, imo.

Everyone else is cracking jokes but like, can you imagine how awful that death must have been? I feel so bad for that poor a animal.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I can see this as a metal album. Maybe I should challenge myself to write some lyrics.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll provide the bass guitar.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as a metalhead, I approve that it is metal af

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's not what happened

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

what do you think happened?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was reported that someone just placed it there

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Skin cleanly removed and the skeleton intact is not typical of a hunter or of a scavenger. Apparently placed in situation.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I agree. Burns can't do that.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Damn it OP >__<

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Jet fuel can't melt dank memes.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're right, it can't. However, as TwiggingtonTheThird suggested, it may have been charred, then scavengers ate the muscle, leaving sinew.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Possibly true. Depends when the 'Forrest fire' was in comparison to when this was taken.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

http://www.mtlowe.net/griffith_park.htm It's real, apparently. The picture was taken by Colin Brown several days after the fire

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except none of the trees and plants around it seem burned in any way. I call repost BS.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who took it's front legs?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Gravity.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

DAMNIT SANDRA

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The front legs are not attached in any way to the axial skeleton; they essentially free-float in muscle. The hind limbs fit into a 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

socket in the pelvic girdle, so they remain attached far longer. The front legs attach to the scapula, which attaches to mostly nothing. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Bacteria, maggots, solar degradation, your mom, the list of decomposition of elements is extensive.

Solor Degradation is the name of my metal band

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Your mom is the name of mine

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You named your band "Harriet" ? Well that's ... edgy?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone else not seeing his front two legs.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Yes. I'm really angry about it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Seriously, where did they go?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The front legs are not connected to the spine. It would be easy from them to fall once disconnected from muscle. user bruisedeye explained

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yea they're only connected by muscle. it allows them to drop and turn insanely fast to avoid danger.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Things that didn't happen, there's no charing on the tree from a fire.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Maybe it was just the deer on fire.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

http://www.mtlowe.net/griffith_park.htm It's real, apparently. The fire was in Giffith Park. It looks like oak, in which case, very charred.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yea. Now he is ready for the skeleton war

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Hard to say, but he does appear to be smiling after all that! What a trooper!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I had assumed, from the tone of the picture, that the deer survived.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a little kid ask me this 3 days ago when I fed a pregnant deer with a broken neck to a pack of wolves. I told him no, she wasn't.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have so many questions...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(1/2) You're a little late to the party. The short version is I worked for a park service and we had animal enclosures with wolves that were

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2/2) often fed with donated deer people had hit with their car. The little girl was there with her family to watch the wolves eat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would imagine someone would see this a do something. We should expect the recovery photos any day now.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he hung in there and pulled through

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He just needs some moisturiser.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, he's.. he's just sleeping, my dear.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like an easy 10th degree burn over at least 80% of the body. So maybe?

11 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 0

I ever tell you about the time my buddy Keith and I made fireworks? Third degree burns over 95% of his body.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Might need a skin graft

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Maybe some face reconstruction

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And throw in a boob job for good measure

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yes

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No. No it did not. Every time this is posted with that caption it is debunked.

11 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 8

Perhaps it did, though. http://www.mtlowe.net/griffith_park.htm The picture was taken by Colin Brown several days after the fire. The (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

fire, as TwiggingtonTheThird suggested, may have only lasted long enough to char the animal. Scavengers later took the muscle, leaving sinew

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good detective skills!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks, but I just remembered it from another post from two years ago.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the bones aren't blackened, and the tendons would've burned,

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah, a fire that big would've burned the branches, too.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems like it would look more burned. Plus I don't think deer run backwards.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They run backwards from fire because they are scared of it, and don't want to let it out of their sight.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And it could be made into a horrifying fairy tale with a good lesson in the end about not gloating. THAT'S RIGHT JEFF YOU HAD IT COMING

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But the deer with the small antlers went home and had crumpets for tea. The End

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Hopefully the smoke got to it first and made it pass out :< poor thing

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it's horrid...but now I have a new wallpaper

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

It couldn't have been THAT horrifying... look at his smile!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kinda wish I never saw this.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you lay in a bathtub and slowly increase the water temperature, you can boil to death without even noticing. Soo is that better or worse?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well I do like a really hot bath, and i have been shovelling compost all day and my back aches, so it sounds kinda nice

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

More like "I'M FREE FROM MY MEAT BAG! NOW TO JOIN THE SKELETON ARM-oh damnit I'm stuck..."

11 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

It's a skeleton...

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

common misconception with mummys, the ligaments and muscles are gone thus the mouth falls open to look like screaming. odds smoke killed it.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

By fear you mean bones?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ha i love when Imgur actually calls out shitty pseudo-profound comments like this

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Worry not, it would've suffocated from smoke inhalation long before it felt the flames licking and consuming it's flesh.

11 years ago | Likes 137 Dislikes 1

Nicely put ;)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, forest fires don't really cause much smoke at ground level. Just lots of heat, and a wall of fast moving fire. It definitely suffered.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But the panic going through him when his antlers got caught must have been intense

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

oh great, so instead of burned alive, it would be strangled by gasses. Really great.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its. I'm sorry for this.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not in a forest fire. Those things move fast

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Yes, but they also suck all the oxygen out of the air, so i still believe LOTD is correct, it would have asphyxiated before burning.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

... For some reason, I'm still worrying.

11 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Don't worry, it's dead.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It just looks like it was screaming. It wasn't, it was too busy struggling to get down before the smoke got to it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it that much worse than the usual way of being chased by a predator until it catches you and begins to eat you alive?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

At least if you are running away you have the chance of getting away, thrashing hopelessly against your own antlers as the smoke approaches?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think we can blame Darwin here...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Uhh, no

Zombie Darwin! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yuck.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Lesson: Don't cook things, or eat things that were cooked, BEFORE they were gutted

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder if meat tastes any better if cooked with a fresh supply of blood flowing through it until it's ready... -mouth waters.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Dude

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Isn't it said that fear taints the meat? So unless the meat source was not fearful while the blood was flowing, wouldn't it taste off?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Muscle tissue gets flooded with adrenaline; this gives the meat a bitter, metallic flavor but gives the eater a powerful stimulating effect

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lots of thoughts now...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So what you're saying is that if you eat someone while their adrenaline is flowing, you gain their powers?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Burning alive, drowning, buried alive...all frightening.

11 years ago | Likes 485 Dislikes 1

all death by asphyxiation

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Drowning inst that bad after a while. Nearly died twice from drowning , you start embracing it after the feeling of all your hope is lost.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or like if a space snake gets into your space suit and starts crawling through your bodily openings and, like, eats you and stuff.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would rather freeze.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eaten alive, as would happen to many animals...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anything that involves you slowly dying while conscious it a terrible way to go

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Being eaten would suuuuuck

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anything slow and painful is a terrible way to die imo.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buried alive might not be too bad. I thank myth busters for that realization.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how about drowning in oil while the oil is on fire.......

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've always had a thing about being flayed with boiling sand, since i read about it as a kid

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ARS I think is way way worse imo

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Drowning is uncomfortable not painful though, I'd rather drown than burn.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The worst is dehydration or starvation. Very painful until the end

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Starvation victims actually typically suffer from cardiac arrest which is ultimately what kills them.

Do you know this from personal experience when you died?

Don't forget freezing! Contrary to popular belief, freezing is very painful. When your blood starts to freeze, it will rupture your veins.

It hurts worse warming back up.

I heard it actually feels like being on fire but for a longer time

And don't forget, the water in the cells freezes and punctures the cells, so even if you manage to thaw it the damage is already done

Yea but don't you eventually get numb and lose consciousness? at least there's that I hope.

Yes ofc, freezing is more uncomfortable than painful, because by the time the cold actually starts to hurt, your probably too chill already

I'm a pretty chill guy though, so why aren't my veins ruptured?

Basically being alive while dying is terrifying.

Yep, definitely prefer that over being dead while dying.

I know what you mean. It's way worse than being dead while dying

Aren't we all dying?

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Edgy

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But technically aren't you always alive as you're dying?

It probably died of smoke inhalation.

Idk, he looks pretty surprised

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In a forest fire, unlikely. That shit moves too fast.

But burning while being suffocated to death by smoke inhalation-now that is a painful way to die

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Smoke inhalation is THE big killer in ANY fire. Actually burning to death is fairly rare.

Smoke might be a problem when contained (like inside a house). Outdoors, radiant heat is the concern. Trust me, I've had experience.

Yeah plus that position doesn't seem naturally possible
