Ma'am...I am a CASHIER, not a dr.

So as some of you may or may not know, I work at a classy lil' joint called *The Buck Stump, where everything is a dollar. I also live in Florida.

So I'm ringing customers up, it's busy as hell. There's about 7 people in my line and of course I am the only one, other than the assistant manager/manager on duty. Usually I can get a line in and out fast. Nobody wants to be in line anyway, I hate it, you hate it, I get it. I'll do my best to be as quick as possible.

This lady comes along, wearing an orange polo shirt with, "Cafeteria Staff," embroidered on the chest. She drops her items on the conveyor belt and I am ringing it up. It's anti-itch cream. No big. She then says: "Can I ask you something?"

I thought this was going to be about a product. Our store hours. Maybe the price of something. Sometimes they ask if we're hiring. So as the disgustingly chipper person I am I say, "Sure!"

This woman then turns around, in line, with customers behind her, WATCHING her, takes the edge of her shirt and then HIKES it up around her neck. I am not lying. Full on bra on display (thank god all tiddies in, no party tit flopped out or anything BUT STILL) and goes: "I got something that's biting and itching me. You know what it could be?"

Now, a normal person would probably just stare like a deer in headlights. Who wants to be normal? Part of my brain literally shut down because: Hello, lady you are FLASHING THE ENTIRE STORE and so that other part of your brain--the one that takes over sometimes when you panic and see a train wreck and you run in and save a bunch of people while shits on fire and you don't even notice--took over.

"Got pets?" That part of me I had no control blurted.
"No," lady says, still standing there, back to me, shirt hiked.
"Have a new roomate?" I ask out of Panic Brain's growing suspicions.
"Yeah!" She said, FINALLY lowering her shirt and turning around to face me. "Had one at least, stayed with me a week or two. They're moving out."
[Suspicion Increases] "You notice that you get these bites at night, while asleep? And sometimes they itch and bother you or you feel it so much at night you wake up from it?"
"Yeah!"
"Bedbugs," I dead panned. And felt my skin CRAWL because I had to touch the itch cream she just put down on the conveyor belt.

I am refusing to make eye contact with the other customers right now because I don't want my face to give away the horror I am feeling and they must be, watching this go on.

"DAMN," she says. "Thanks!"
Pays me and walks away.

The next customer walks up and I make them wait while I pump out enough hand sanitizer to set my cuticles on fire and rub vigorously, trying not to re-inact any dramatic shower scrubbing scenes.

The next lady in line had no problem with it, as she too was grabbing the hand sanitizer on my register to scrub herself.

Thinking about it now, my skin is still trying to crawl off to find a container of bleach. I think of this moment often, whispering, "What the ever loving fuck," to myself under my breath whenever I recall this.

Bed bugs are are the worst.

Burn your clothes, wash yourself in bleach. Do not let this evil in your home.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As if I needed any more reason to avoid Florida.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I could always write more about the delightful customers here. You know. To really drive it home.

We retail workers need to get together and write a book. Seriously. Chicken Soup for the Retail person.

I read shirt as skirt and was really confused for a minute.

Florida.....

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I probably should have just stopped typing at "Florida." But you know. Sharing is caring?

God dammit Jim I'm a Cashier not a Doctor

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They usually only spread through bags and furniture, so you should be safe. Good story though :)

Bed bugs you say? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T4nEnyktagk&feature=youtu.be

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know why I did... But I clicked it. Now I'm fumigating just in case

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't this more a commentary of our healthcare then the drudgery of a convenience store?

+1 for 'party tit'

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Now I'm itchy

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All I can think is that the hand sanitizer will do nothing

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know. But what to do when you have a line of customers and can't just run off for a quick shower, right?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've worked in retail. This is 100% a true story.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm so sorry, friend.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fire stations are usually infested with bedbugs and they unfortunately take them home. First responders are called to unsanitary places.

i used to be a cashier, had a customer try to give me a bill from her buttcrack. she was a.. large girl and it was a hot day. that was fun..

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have NEVER had buttcrack money, and I hope to sweet Odin I never encounter it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have that weird part of my brain too. The half that is shocked/in horror just sort of tunes out and damage-control mode takes over.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Okay, see, your arm's gone. Here's what we have to do..."

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right? "Oh, you've been shot. Excellent. Well here's what we're going to do..." And then six hours later, fall apart.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You had me at “Florida”.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My wife lived in a house with bed bugs. They came 3 times to remove them, but one person never let them in. Turns out he was the cause.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fun fact about bed bugs. Just thinking about them makes you itch. Also, they can survive up to a year without feeding.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Only adults luckily. Larvae and pupae need to feed within 1-2 weeks. When I had them, I spreayed the 3 I found dead, got rid of my 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sofa bed (they were there) and sprayed also all my flooring lists before moving out to my ex's apartment from the toxins. The bug 2/3

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

destroyer or whatever they are called visited 2 weeks later and said I seemed to get them cleared, since there was no signs. He said 3/4

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if there was larvae/pupae left, they'd have surfaced by then and my lists and furniture were clean. I never saw the fuckers again. 4/4

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get the eeffies. But sanitizer would do nothing in two ways. It does not kill bedbugs. Also, bedbugs have no problem surviving in pristine

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I know. But it was the only thing at hand and there was no cleansing fire anywhere to be seen.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Clean conditions. Associating bedbugs with dirtiness is not the way to go. While the behavior is odd, the reaction seems just as odd to me.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There was no danger in handling the cream she had. They don't like light, hide in cracks and corners, in fabric and underneath things.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I made a similar comment. Nice to see someone else with sense.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

could just be fleas

7 years ago | Likes 210 Dislikes 2

Or scabies... *retch*

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Fleas are much easier to see and usually get your ankles and legs first

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Or anywhere your clothes are tight :-) like around your bra straps, socks, backside of the knees, elbows etc.

Flea bites appear in multiples and appear almost as little cuts. Had an old cat sleep at the end of my bed so I got them on my calves

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They tend to hit legs first. I’ve been through two infestations. One from previous dirty tenants the other from my little dog picking it

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

up in the yard.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Something died in my backyard and set loose fleapocolypse upon mine house and I still have scars on my feet from all the bites.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

fleas cant sustain/reproduce with just humans around. They need 24/7 access to something with fur.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fleas will nibble humans if needs must.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a fellow cashier, this is right up there with women handing you sweaty cards/money out of their bras.

7 years ago | Likes 289 Dislikes 1

Contactless titties

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it OK if not sweaty? I'm a Brit so heat really isn't an issue, but bra pockets are handy. I don't take it out in front of them but still

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

If not visibly wet and I don't see you do it, I really don't care.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My first month at this job a lady handed me a wad of soaking ones from her cleavage. Never been quite right since

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ugh yes! Used to be a cashier in hot-as-balls NOLA, sweaty boob cash & ass-pocket cash was always sooo nasty

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The store I used to work at had a sign up saying we would refuse money like that.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Prior HD cashier, try landscapers pulling soggy money out of the socks!Work boots, sock, soggy, stinky money! Not enough sanitizer on this earth!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Once had a woman take wet bills out of her bra saying "Sorry about the titty juice". Graveyard shifts were interesting.

Humidititties

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love it when sick people hold the credit cards IN THEIR MOUTHS for some reason.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or when they lick their fingers to seperate the bills then hand them to you like there's nothing wrong.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I HATE this. It's always soggy.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i've refused to take cash that women have pulled from their bras if its visibly wet. thats disgusting. get an exercise belt with a pocket.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah...smart people got their boob/sock/crotch money out in advance and say “it got wet”. At least crotch girl had her cash in a ziplock...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...also at this bar had some cop regulars show up. Lady grabs handfull of straws, drops pants, and uses them to ram a bag of coke inside...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...cops of course are just there to play a game of pool and have lunch. I got gloves and tossed the straws. Always fun at dive bars.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is so gross! Why do women keep cash/cards in their sweaty tits?

7 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 3

Because cunts who design clothes don’t give our clothes pockets and shit gets lost in fuckin’ purses.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As a woman, I don't know, and I've always found it disgusting. I have a sister who does it and it's nasty. She puts her phone and everything

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In there

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Titty cash. Especially useful when you are out on a run or something and don’t have room for bulk. Or your at a club and didn’t wanna bag.

It's always like really grotesque 30-40 something girls it's never a sexy college girl (I'm 21 by the way just so I don't seem like a creep)

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Naw, you just come off small minded, ignorant, and intolerant gen z. I’d prefer creepy.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

We found the grotesque 30-40 y/o girl lol

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

nah still a creep

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because we don't have any bollocking pockets!

7 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 8

You can just buy clothes with pockets! And yes they bloody exist!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair point.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Where do you keep your phone ? Put card and money in your phone case. That's about all.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buy pants with pockets!

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 19

Do you know how hard it is to buy pants for women with functioning pockets?

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I finally bought a belt bag because of the need of pockets and wanted to be hands free. Super functional and love the way it looks but /1

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

still a pain. Pockets would be better.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They don’t MAKE them with pockets. If they do they’re the size of a condominium packet or they’re sewn shut.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I literally only buy men's pants because women's pants don't have pockets. I refuse to use a purse and need pockets

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We try! I'd never do the bra-money thing, but lord almighty it can be hard to find pants with pockets!

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

So true. They even make fake pockets which is the worst. It's like getting catfished by your jeans.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Find what size you are in mens pants. Not only do they have cavernous pockets, the sizes are the same from shop to shop.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We would if companies made pants with pockets for women!

7 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Try Duluth. I've heard they don't fit well on some women but the pockets are massive. Life changing.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My partner wrote a strongly worded email to a shop when he discovered that some trousers of my 3yo daughter had pretend pockets - why?!

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Just shop in the men section for pants, women pants are so goddamn cumbersome i have no idea how you accept wearing them !

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Those of us with curves can't fit in men's pants.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I guarantee you can find a pair that fits. Not well or curve huggingly, but more or less fits.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

I am not a thin woman. And yet men's clothing fits better than women's

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then you're buying the wrong size.
