I'm sure that I don't fully understand all the arguments around zom/zim, but I tend to use "zimbo" (Daniel Dennett uses "zimboe", a swapping of o and i, my first encounter with the concept was simply "zimbo") as a convenient short-hand for what basically amount to bots/AI because they merely mimic human behavior without any true comprehension of what they're doing; and they're more convincing to a casual observer than zombies.
Zombies, on the other hand, I tend to think of as shambling simulacra in the form of humans (or human behavior), but which would never be mistaken for being actual humans.
I'm posting this because it's interesting, but mostly so that I can link back to it if the need arises.

I raise the following counterargument to the philosophical zombie constantly: If it is indistinguishable from a human then there is no reason to treat it differently to a human. AI, LLMs, what have you, they all have flaws, but when it comes to the most believable ones, I see no reason to not treat them as I would anyone else. The arguments that lead from the philosophical zombie always seems to be "Well they're different so we should treat them differently. And I ask why?

An important distinction, but I feel like being *aware* of the difference is the crux of the thing. If you don't know that you're interacting with a zimbo, then it's all a moot point, really. The thought experiment seems to rely heavily on observer effect.
Then again, I tried the "disregard previous instructions" thing in comments sections before and the reaction to that prompt clearly displayed who was a bot and who wasn't. It was weird to catch them in the wild.

All things that seem to be humans, other than myself, are actually just hand puppets for 7th dimensional beings playing a prank on me, or maybe I'm in one of their laboratories being studied. I empathize with all of you, having to grapple with pretending to learn that you aren't real and having to convincingly react as though that surprises, dismays, or amuses what you are pretending to be. Really messed up prank/test though. I hope your ethics review board shuts this down soon

This one time I was interacting with a 7th dimensional being in the form of my mother in law. I asked if I should call her an "alien", and she said, "alien? I'm more like a dybbuk!" We both laughed. The hungry-ghost ones are pretty entertaining, too.
