I once lost an election in a vampire LARP and while I could have whined about it I decided whining portrayed my character as less respectable than he would allow himself to appear. I acted super big about it, and offered my services to the election winner. Not only did I not look like a bitch, I looked like I genuinely cared about what I had just been running for.

Yup. I actually liked Changeling the best, but I played that and Werewolf a couple times. It was a lot of fun when you got into it.

I had so much fun with it. But I distinctly remember a big complaint that as soon as combat happened it cocked over everything else going on

It took like half an hour for three rounds of combat sometimes. It always cracked me up that police showed up after three rounds of combat when a round was said to last 3 seconds. Really quick cops in the World of Darkness. Actual PVP to the death was uncommon in my crowd (by the time I came along, I heard it was VERY common before my time). I can only remember one time that wasn't related to a storyteller plot in around 8 years.
