Germany trolls Putin at 2014 Winter Olympics.

Germany presents their Sochi olympic uniforms.

The Sochi winter olympics are about to start, and there has been much criticism recently. Construction workers have been systematically exploited and financially ruined.
This is only the tip of the iceberg though, as Russia has also constantly been critized for repeated human rights violations, the opression of a political opposition, the undemocratic structures of the Russian government under Vladimir Putin, and Putins anti-gay policies.

Colourful is beautiful.

Regarding the latter, the German olympic team is making a political statement. The athletes will wear brightly-coloured uniforms that almost resemble the rainbow flag.
On one hand, it is so subtle that they will easily get away with it. On the other hand, it's so blatantly obvious it must be seen as a form of open protest.

It's all about München '72

Officially, all of this is a reference to the '72 summer olympics in München, according the the German Olympic Sports Confederation and the designer Willy Bogner. That sure is a great reason to use these colours despite there being no connection to these games at all ...
So while it's not officially a protest, the message sent to Putin is loud and clear:
"F*ck you and your homophobia, Putin!"
