When I went to work for them, a few years later, they had this neat painting on the wall in the office, showing a stylized ISS with all of the solar panels replaced with gigantic Ball glass jars complete with screw lids.

Haha, I used to work for ball aerospace, but they sold us off to BAE now. And they sold off the ball jars many years ago but the company paid extra to keep the ball name on the jars. Kind of funny to think ball aerospace and ball packaging (jars, aluminum cups, cans) are all from the same company. Was a great place to work despite being a large company.

The real shocker for me was when I found out what Yamaha's logo is - it's three tuning forks. Music instruments were their original business, they've been at it for over a century I think. The whole motorcycle stuff grew out of their involvement in WW2, where they made airplane engines.

It's really just the wider can top shape used everywhere years ago. The mainland version shrunk the diameter of the top a while back but HI is still using the same tooling as before.
