I wish the headlines would stop saying "hush money" and actually say what it is; election interference.

From a technical pov, paying hush money isn't strictly illegal - the charges were falsifying business records to cover the payments. If he'd lodged them as "payoffs to porn star" there'd be some nifty stories about it, but it'd've been legal.
