Parametric Rack Cage Generator (OpenSCAD Script)

Default settings when the script loads - 10" rack, 2U height, for a device up to 220mm wide and up to 68mm tall. Height is automatically scaled to fit the device and support structure, and in even multiples of a standard rack "unit" of 1.75"/44.45mm.

10" 1U, for small devices (<24mm tall, <120mm wide)

19" 2U for bigger devices - the script auto-scales sizes to fit the device dimensions, even on bigger things.

For 19" racks, the script offers half-width and third-width options with optional mounting ears for bolting two or even three segments together to form a single panel. This example is a third-width/center (6.33" wide) to hold a small device like an encased SBC (read: Raspberry Pi, etc.). Device sizes can be mixed-and-matched, and you can attach a 1U and a 2U to the side of a 3U because all faceplates follow the same dimensions as a standard rack panel, and their mounting holes follow the same 1/2"-5/8"-5/8" pattern as a standard rack rail.

Half-width (9.5") for a 19" rack - this allows bolting two of these together at the mounting ear at the right and mounting two different devices onto a single 19" rack space. You can even mix-and-match a 2U tall device on the left with two 1U devices on the right, and so on, as long as the device's dimensions fit within the sizes involved.

"Extra support" mode enabled, which adds additional bracing on the top/bottom of the device cage. Useful for heavier things like SFF PCs.

"Heavy device" mode enabled, which thickens all surfaces from 4mm to 5mm or even 6mm. ("Extra support" is also enabled in this screenshot.)
