Has the day at school left you a little tired and stiff? With a little torso-stretching, you’ll soon feel revitalized.
Your sides will get a thorough stretching in this diagonal-suspension apparatus.
A bicep training machine
Are you nervous, or do you struggle with constipation? You’ll find that this vibrating massage machine will work wonders!
Step into the trunk-measuring apparatus and map the contours of your torso and the bends of your spine
In this elegant chest-expanding machine, you can raise your pulse by increasing the flow of blood to the lungs.
It may look like a velvet-topped dining room table, but you can realign imbalances in your muscles, skeleton and joints with this side-pressing apparatus.”
Is this something from Count Dracula’s torture chamber? No, it’s just a device for realigning your ribcage (I dunno how many times I have woken up to a misaligned rib cage /s)
Come and get your stomach kneaded (ach Fritz, ze device is for health, not for ze schtupping!)
This boy isn’t sitting on a bar stool – it is a torso-twisting machine that is strengthening his stomach. (singing "I'm a little teapot is optional but highly encouraged)
A pelvis-twisting machine (yah, we make the pelvis like der prrrretzle yah?)
This boy in high-laced boots is benefiting from some arm-stretching while working on the balance of his torso.
A velocipede-stepping apparatus
This arm-bending apparatus is good for the arms, shoulders, and back
For those who are unable – or who don’t dare – to get up on horseback, this apparatus vibrates the rider’s body (also to be found in the seediest western themed saloons. Staying on the full 30 seconds gets you a t-shirt and pitcher of gin)
A machine to increase the strength and mobility of the arm and shoulder. (excellent for the lady too genteel to have had much practice hailing cabs)
A cross-sectional measuring device to track changes to the body (portal technology sure has come a long way hasn't it?)
Lean back and feel the benefits of a circular massage to the lower abdomen. (uhm, Dr? is this thing *supposed* to be stealing my gold pocketwatch?)
A moving mechanized saddle to train the core muscles. (earlier Sybians were much more elaborate affairs yes?
Increase the circulation of blood to tired and cold feet with a foot massage (early attempts at chemical warfare using a big fan and Otto's smelly feet were not as successful as inventors had hoped)
A machine for massaging the back (important man of science? Too busy to keep up with the tiresome aspects of your patriarchal role at home? This machine will allow you to make your maid twice as sexually harassed in half the time! pinch both cheeks at the same time or in rapid succession!)

Some seem rather useful

I just love how ornate the wheels and bases are. They look like solid pieces of furniture
SvenSkullhammer
They look like a combination of torture devices and victorian era sex machines.

These would all make great places to hang laundry from.

I'm impressed one of the machines didn't just dispense cocaine

It is amazing we've survived this long as a species.

What you've done here is repackaged a page from Flashbak (who probably nicked it from somewhere else themselves). ( https://flashbak.com/dr-gustaf-zander-victorian-exercise-machines-456732/ )

It is indeed shameless stolen from elsewhere. here's the link https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/first-gym-machines-zander/

Interesting stuff, but not the first exercise machines by a long margin. The stair climber was patented in 1816 for example; the treadmill in 1872.

Iirc the thread mill wasn't so much for exercise but to punish prisoners
WenTheEternallySurprised
There were earlier versions that were used for that; I don't know much more than what was on a Time Team episode. The 1872 patent was one meant for improving health. Treadmills to do work go back thousands of years, powering cranes in Egypt for example.

Ah thanks did not know that
