Both labor and supply chain are constrained coming out of COVID, so shit's more expensive to make. That doesn't mean corporations aren't taking advantage of the optics to overcharge you.

Are the "record profits" adjusted for inflation?

Price gouging is different.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Not gouging, but taking advantage of it.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If only Republican representatives wanted to lower the prices..

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm fucking infuriated at the constant stream of news about inflation that never mentions record corporate profits. "GRINDS MY GEARS!"

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Media primed the pump with all the breathless supply chain and price increase talk, corps correctly felt they could take advantage.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

It’s far from made up. What, you think the price increases are just at the general public? You have no idea what has been happening(1)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

(2)behind the scenes, and how often things are unavailable to be had in sufficient quantities no matter the price.

We've been telling everyone these, it's real. We need to act! Or it'll become the norm.

Right? Can't even wear a cool trench coat and eat noodles at a grungy little shop without looking like a neckbeard.

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Hey. Its definitely inflation. But theres probably some price gouging also. It can be both

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it's not working like it used to anymore, we know where the money is going.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Inflation has to do with the real value of goods and money supply ratio. This is just sparkling capitalism.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It'd be great if you didn't use the word "Corps" to abbreviate evil "Corporations" like that... Corps (pronounced k-or) is already a thing.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I can only assume you are talking about the Green Lantern Corps, and I agree

Have you not heard the tale of Tun Tavern??? https://www.tuntavern.com/tun-tavern-history.html

Imaginflation

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If my product costs 10$ to make and I charge 20$ for it but then suddenly it costs $20 to make and now I charge $40, my margins are the same

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

but your net profits are not

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Good luck getting Congress to do anything about it and good luck convincing the right it isnt all bidens fault.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP is correct, but my father will never believe it.

4 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 5

The stock market is crashing. That doesn't happen with profits and outlooks are good.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Thanks, Obiden.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

My dad is convinced it'll all get better when Biden is out. I fear he's right, but not for the reasons he thinks

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Same.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If inflation is excess money and not enough goods. Where is the money? Certainly not in my pocket. Everything goes up, pay stays the same.

If they're making record profits, they can afford to give us all raises, right.... right?????

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i mean logically, why else would the price of the same exact item increase year to year?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work for a paint company, we used to do sales/markdowns on holidays or in the spring. Now we can't produce enough to meet demand even

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Though we increased production by 25% by installing more canning lines. Margins are higher because whatever we make sells instantly.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Manufacturing and retail are seeing record sales, service industry is still down as people are staying home and buying things instead.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have paint that is $100/gal and would mark it down to $75 to get it to sell, now we have months of backorders at full price.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure we are legitimately in an inflationary period post-pandemic, but the point is not everything is being driven by supply/demand.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Corps have been pushing the economic barrier for a couple decades now,. I feel like it now affects such a high %age of ppl now that we..1/

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

..are on a path towards revolution if there isn't significant government intervention and regulation soon. I suspect corps.. 2/

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

..understand this and are now in a, "well, let's squeeze every last cent out of it while we can" mode. /3

Gov. Tries to pass. They gut out everything in a bill and put BS in there. Gov has to veto and nothing that matters gets done.

Inflation literally just means "Stuff costs more than it used to". If corporations price gouge and stuff costs more... it's inflation. The >

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

"it's not inflation, is price gouging" is like saying "I don't have a roach problem in my house! It's [a specific breed of roaches]".

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

I can sort of understand complaining about price gouging (though companies have always and will always charge as much money as they can get>

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

away with, it's sort of in-built assumption in the whole system). But I don't get the whole "[definition of inflation] is not inflation!"

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

inflation occurs naturally in an economy when necessary resources are more scarce, not because some dipshit decided to charge more.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, artificially high prices are creating a need for more income. It forces the issue, which is their plan, make life worse, blame Biden.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

clearly not everyone

Those ones don't care

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

No, everyone on imgur knows. Post this on your racist aunt's Facebook, give us wholesome memes.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

What good are wholesome memes if the GOP fascist takeover takes place? Maybe this is the time to pay attention?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

But we are paying attention, on news sites. There's hundreds of sources, why should a meme sharing site where there's 0 Republicans be one?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why should we be concerned about fascism ending the government created by our Founding Fathers? Do you think fascists will allow memes?
