IIRC, this part is from the first act. If you ever have an afternoon/evening to burn, I highly suggest listening to it in one go.
Saw a video once of professional wall painters not using painters tape. Just hand brushing around trim then using a roller on the rest. I tried it when I painted my living room and I’ll never go back. HUGE time saver. I just kept a wet paper towel on hand to clean up any mistakes as I went.
I have an Interior Design firm in Mexico, working on mostly new construction homes and hotels. I swear I spend half my time putting up blue tape for tag pints for the carpenters to fix, and the other half taking it down. I literally have had painters tape dreams. I would hate this job but his work is stunning.
The voiceover says, or at least strongly implies, that he places the tape first and then draws, but that's clearly not the case as there is drawing under the tape after he removes it. Still looks really neat and is very well done, and the images are evocative.
He clearly draws, then places the tape and then draws A WHOLE LOT more. I think the v.o. was technically correct, the best kind of correct, but still very annoying, agreed.
I hate how divisive masking tape usage is, it's clearly a great way to add details. Meanwhile I once got a 0 for painting at school, because I used masking tape.

It was just headphones but yeah I had them loud :D Could hear it clearly even with my hadphones lowest volume on the knob. Still rad videos though so thank you for sharing
It's really striking, huh? I searched and searched for a time lapse that might show more of his process, at what point he masks over partially drawn images (like the floorboards or molding) and what it's like at the end, how he achieves the persistent dark shades, but no such luck.

Possible, but anytime I’ve used masking fluid I’ve had to rub it off, it’s never peeled cleanly like this for me.
