So I posted this earlier and got a lot of questions, like "why the paint" and "why would they do this" and "are you sure this isn't legit?" Turns out, someone on Twitter did the research already.
https://twitter.com/karlhigley/status/1287831329661386764?s=20
So that explains where the paint came from. But you might ask, couldn't this just be covered in paint a protester had in the bag where they found the magazines? Well, about that...
And this just so happens to be the model being carried around by these paint-slathered feds.
Notice how the first and third mags have the brunt of the paint, and the second and fourth have almost none? Almost like they were in a chest rig, as Higley points out.
Sure, this could all be legit. But with the way the police in the Pacific Northwest have been treating peaceful protesters, and retaliating for as little as someone waving an umbrella, are we really going to just write this off as "a civilian happened to have the kind of AR mag that the cops were carrying, covered in the same red paint that the feds were hit by?" Plus, no sane person would make a molotov that would torch your entire arm when thrown, even if it wasn't only filled with 2 ounces of liquid.
Other commenters on that thread have pointed out how the rags in the mason jars are suspiciously similar in color to the paint on the cops in the picture. Almost like they used them to wipe the paint off.
Seems too convenient for me.
EDIT: At no point have I said these mags aren't available to civilians. I'm well aware. But unless civilians are dousing themselves in red paint instead of the feds, why would these be in an unseen bag covered in still-wet paint, with the shoddiest molotovs ever? If you think I'm accusing you of being a fed for owning a Magpul accessory, that's your problem.
nevadajim
This sounds like a conspiracy theory the conservatives would come up with.
GreenTeaParty
Oh people can buy that gun stuff, so invalid argument, I R sMerT!
Coca08
Seems like the kind of ham handed story Prince's boys would try in a 3rd world country. \
BrickShakes
It's almost like people are lying about protestors being terrorists etc to justify violating their rights.
GirthyWeiner
Pmags are super cheap and most ar manufacturers give them with their rifles, I got 10 with my Smith and Wesson lol.
heroesblood
Yeah, I get that. Plenty of other comments about it. It's the circumstance more than the model is all. No argument about availability.
Nicalanius
It looks like they were in a bag with paint that spilled.
heroesblood
Strange that the jars have no paint on them, if so.
Orthy
As much as I’d like to say yeah they are right. Magpul P-Mags are largely the most common magazine for an AR out there.
Orthy
It could be anyone. Police, protestor, the dude painting the cops.
hardhart
Dunno if it's legit or not, but looking at the mags is pointless (esp w/one windowed) At least look at the ammo, headstamps and projos.

The first time I shot a bird it was on accident. I aimed to the left but the sights were off. My friend called me killer. My mom was upset.
heroesblood
Bart?

Well done
magus200342
What's simpler, an anarchist with weird ass paintjob tastes and has no clue how to make a molotov, or that a cop lied?
heroesblood
Since this isn't Borderlands, gonna go with door number two. Especially after the last month and a half of cops lying about shit.
magus200342
Simplest solution is usually the correct one. Makes way more sense to me that the cop pr team is working overtime trying to spin things.

Interesting

Imagine how messy it would be to fill balloons with paint. That paint would be all over everything.
GreenTeaParty
I was an art teacher, it’s very easy to fill balloons with paint, roll up anything into a funnel and there u go.
bepreparedyoumust
I said it was messy not difficult. Does your experience suggest otherwise?
GreenTeaParty
With a funnel I never had much mess, but it was a two person operation.
maxpower515
Just going to point out that Magpul sells hundreds of thousands of PMAGs every year to civilians.
FarmerFrance
They don't come randomly splattered with incriminating red paint though..
maxpower515
because anyone can't just throw paint on a magazine
FarmerFrance
Or or, a cop with paint splashed on his could get rid of his, order new ones, and frame groups for attempted arson and more..
maxpower515
Or a rioter had a bag with mags and molotovs in it, then spilled paint while a line of police were approaching and decided to ditch the bag
maxpower515
Anything is possible, but this is all circumstantial.
heroesblood
Of course, no argument there. But the circumstance seems way too convenient, paint and all, for this "find" to be completely legit.
St3v3Wh0
Looking more closely at the magazines, there are 3 different models shown. two M2’s an M3 and an M3 window. M2’s are usually standard issue.
St3v3Wh0
These could also be a civilians. There’s just not enough information to say who owned them and why they were with poorly made molotovs. 1/2
St3v3Wh0
We could speculate that these were owned by whoever may have been throwing paint as well. Not as likely, but possible. More info is needed.
nivE3066
But thwy would they just be left there? If someone had them with intent on using wouldn't they have used them?
St3v3Wh0
I couldn’t begin to speculate. There’s just not enough info to go off of. I do hope a legitimate answer is found though.
Chech
Struggle to believe anything the police say they found after the candle incident.
YoSoyMilk
What’s the candle incident?
heroesblood
Seattle PD claimed that protesters threw "an incendiary device" at officers. They posted a picture of a cheap candle.
Ximinipot
It's true, I live in Washington and it was in the papers and all the local news programs.
LesGrossman
Damn, that "proof" is such a stretch its ridiculous...I got 10 free pmags with the last red dot I bought...TIL Im an evil Federal agent.
heroesblood
It's also a stretch the other way, given the circumstance. Super aware the mags are easily available.
macthelost
Yes, but do you also immediately cover them with cheap red paint that’s conveniently the same color as DHS agents got covered in too?
LesGrossman
Could be any number of explanations...with all these paint balloons flying around, do you really think that no protesters were hit?
HerbalTeaEnemas
Ok, let's say it was a protester. Why are the mags, and only two of them, covered in red paint, but not the molotovs?
HerbalTeaEnemas
Also, where is the bag? Is it covered in red paint as well?
macthelost
Found the trumptard. Muted.
LesGrossman
LOL
freddyflash311
Where are your pics of the chest rigs the police were wearing? Those mags are large, it's pretty obvious if someone has them on their chest
heroesblood
Check the twitter thread. Lots of linked photos in both comments and replies I didn't screencap.
freddyflash311
I just did, thank you. Dude didn't post any pictures that showed spare AR mags on police officers, just highlighted a mag in a rifle
freddyflash311
Anything is possible, sure. Before jumping to a conclusion either way I'd like to see something more than circumstantial evidence
freddyflash311
Like I'd be more surprised if you couldn't find a major law enforcement org that didn't buy pmags, which is something you've already covered
freddyflash311
No matter who's bag it was, I hope they find them and arrest them. No need for firebombs like that
heroesblood
Huh. Could've sworn I saw a couple. Might need to redact that then, I read through a few times and haven't looked again yet.
freddyflash311
If I'm wrong, please correct me. The high res pictures looked like people from the video and I didn't see mags
freddyflash311
But I'll look again
freddyflash311
The one dude, with the AR with paint on the mag, has something on his rig that could potentially be spare mags. They don't seem easy access
freddyflash311
Like mag pouches you see in most chest rigs are like quick access things. So I dunno. Not an easy tell in either direction
