Possibly the best co-op game you will ever try

Mostly I just stick to playing single player games. I personally do not care for online gaming, but I love playing with others. I feel like playing online just don't cut it for me. I don't know the exact reason, but I think it has to be like: Dialogue through a mic and a headset for me is not that much fun. To impersonal perhaps?

So whenever I am lucky enough to have someone to play with, I prefer playing local co-op games. But there are way to few games out there that can be played together on a local screen. I tried so many games, but there is always something. Either I don't find it good enough, or my girlfriend don't like it or my friends don't. My girlfriend normally dislike every game I show her, so that's not that shocking. She even did not like "to the moon". Can you believe it?

When you search for good local multiplayer games there is always so many recommendations of FPS games, hack & slash, immersive RPG or p2w freemium games. Playing local should be just casual fun. But not so casual it's not fun for everyone. I have tried so many games, some of them was really great, but mostly there is always someone lacking. Btw: Feel free to recommend some games I can play 2-4 player with.

That's when I found Overcooked. I did not know what I was about to discover, but I had rather low expectations about it. Meh, what are the reason in this game? To cook? Sounds lame and looks ridiculous. Also never heard of it, and made in 2016, so I guess it can't be that good?

Boy was I wrong. This game had everything for me, my girlfriend (that never plays games), my friends, my family. Everyone loved this game. It had everything. Co-op at it's best. Not some co-op covered in competitive game format where it is one team vs another*.

It was just pure team spirit coordination in making most dishes, serve them as fastest possible, wash the dishes and continue on. It involves so many tasks that you can't do everything yourself. You need to discuss strategies by who are doing what and when so you can be most efficient. That in combination of creating dishes in very hostile environments. In the back of two moving wans on the highway, in a haunted mansion, on a moving ship at high sea. The list goes on. And it is so much fun.

The best part of it are you can play up to 4 players. Creating more chaos then ever and the kitchen sometimes turn out to be a nightmare on pure ecstacy. Dishes burning, customers complaining, my mom and my sister in full argue of who had to yield when the other was passing. It might sound like a typical Mario Party game, but it's not. It's just bliss.

The story of the game is at best funny, but it's mostly forgettable. You travel back in time to get stronger in your cooking skill so you can save the town (world?) from a flying spaghetti monster by serving it dishes. I have seen better, but I have never seen the same perfect gameplay. The most important factor by far in co-op games. Story driven games are mostly for single player games anyway imo.

This is the best part of the game. Every kitchen is organized as "least" efficient as possible not to even be talking about how illogical the setup are. Preparing where to move if the map chances during the game, Getting food you can only cook on a different location not everyone can access during the game etc.

Fun fact: This game was a in my understanding a side project made by only 2 employers at Team 17. How gold can turn out this great with so little manpower and resources. Especially when other AAA creators spend million of dollars to make unplayable games. I'm looking at you EA.

I do hope they could make a sequel or make more maps. Oh how I want that to happen. Beating the game 4 time seems to be enough for a while. (Before you ask: Yes I have played the two short dlc, can't you see where the picture above is from?)
