I have watched one of those wasps drag a spider away while I was gardening in my backyard a few years back

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Is a Sydney resident, can confirm that is a freakishly enormous Huntsman

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck I love Canada and the snow.

Jeez, they don't like the spiders, so we get someone in to take care of them for them, and then they don't like those either. There's just no pleasing some people!

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

don't worry if they don't like them we can just release wave after wave of chinese needle snakes

Is it just me or did other people think the wasp was carrying a hand?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you! When the picture was smaller I was thinking either I need my coffee stat! or its still Late-Night-imgur somewhere and they're posting X-Files stuff.

A facehugger in Australia would end up in a hole paralyzed wih some wasp eggs in its ass in like 3 minutes.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Even the Sliders knew to leave spiderwasp world within 2 minutes.

The only time I'll root for a wasp.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Huntsmen are harmless.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huntsmen dont bite humans. They are just big and scary and eat lots of pests. The wasp you dont want fucking with you.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I don't buy it. I've been bitten by a freakin celler spider before and they are absolutely tiny compared to us. And it definitely hurt.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Spiders scare the shit out of me, logical or not.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Uggo frenn is still frenn.

Once again- a toast for our brethren in Australia for taking all God’s creepiest & crawliest in creation off our hands!

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's no way to talk about Kevin Rudd

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, Rudd is cuddly until he gets the wrong meal served on his plane, you are thinking of Abbott.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So many Kevins

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aussies comments are all that they see this shit every day I would never sleep again. I will take 3 feet of snow in winter and -40C if thats what it takes to never have this shit in my life.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As the Aussies say ...yeh but nah

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

as a kiwi it amazs me that we dont have any of these horros

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Oz was a trial run, and Kiwi land was the perfect finalised product.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nah mate, NZ is just boring. ;) We had to send some possums just to make things interesting.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

it actually is lol

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shhh! We want to keep the beautiful country that is New Zealand secret, do you know how hard it is to keep you off the map?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you aint doing that good of a job then lol

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A testament to how hard it is!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I loved Australia. Spent 3 months there and the people were awesome. And 0 interactions with anything nippy

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Ye I'm not happy that doom and fearmongering stories and pictures have preloaded me with negativity.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same. I road from one side to the other. No snakes, no spiders. Awesome people.

As a Brisbane native, between golf ball hail, wildfires, drop bears, big ass wasps, low flying bats and huge water dragons its a mine field most days. Below is Barney hes about 6ft and lives in my back yard.

2 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Hello Barney!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm assuming your cat, if you have one, is of the indoor type.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I think you'll find that it's barney's back yard now.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My arachnophobic gf says she lived there for a year, never saw a spider. My theory is her brain shut down anytime she saw one and rebooted afterwards.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No doubt they were watching her.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m gonna need a banana for scale on this one

2 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 1

Spider ate the banana

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You really don’t wanna know.

2 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

Bigger than you think, not as big as it looks here.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A big Huntsman will be about the size of your hand.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Not very big. Maximum 35mm; 1.4 In ; 15-20% banana. But effective.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

You don’t want to see how many legs their bananas have.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

Big enough to be a face-hugger. Yea no nope. Australia, you stay where you are ok.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I immediately regret this decision

2 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Aww cute! A baby huntsman

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I knew the huntsmans can get this big, but the wasps too? Yeah thats a nope from me.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It's funny though huntsman's aren't even deadly to humans. Just fuckin scary.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I’m not afraid of spiders in a rational ā€˜that could kill me’ way. I’m afraid of spiders in a ā€˜AAARRRGGHH WRONG SHAPE WRONG SHAPE RRRRUUUUUUUNNNN’ way, and that thing drives straight to the core of that fear.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually a few people do regularly die each year from being startled by a huntsman dropping into their lap while driving or popping out while operating machinery.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They are scary. I lived in aus for a year and the first room I got had one bigger than my hamd living in the crown moulding. I didnt sleep well the first few nights.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is there. Zoom in

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Check out the tarantula hawk in SW USA and Mexico - super venom in those suckers. Get stung and they tell you to lie down and scream to deal

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Coyote Peterson's encounter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnExgQ81fhU

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah the pain varies from person to person but most metion the worst part is over within 30 mins or so. I think Coyote was debillitated for over 25 mins. Some report intense pain lasting for 90 mins to 2 hours before subsiding. Sounds excruciating.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

with the pain lol.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

damn cazadors

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Great, thank you. And now I also know there's the Schmidt sting pain index...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they sound so insanely loud when they fly by you it's ridiculous

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's REALLY hard to get stung by them though. You have to practically jam them in to your skin before theyll sting. They're quite chill bugs

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You mean the cazador?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imagine standing still worked, and they'd just leave you alone, but nobody tried it because IT'S A FUCKIN CAZADOR.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oh look, batting practice

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

just load upa ton of tourniquets and auto stims and youre good to swing away

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Power armor and super sledge make New Vegas Cazadores trivial. Also deathclaws, super mutants or anything you come upon.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well yeah but but golf club and no armour

The cool part is that the spider isn't dead, it's just paralysed. The wasp will inject her eggs into the spider's abdomen and the wasp larvae will hatch and eat their way out while the spider remains alive.

I knew a girl like that

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

What is it with wasps laying their eggs in living arachnids? Wtf kind of evolution sub-detour is that?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

v

2 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

But offcourse, why would you go for gruesome if you can dial it all the way up to Australian mega-gruesome.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We have those in America too! They just eat tarantulas. They are call tarantula hawks

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We also have normal "spider" wasps, too, in the northeast. Smaller with red like the one in photo and you see them dragging little spiders and sometimes wolf spiders back to a hole in the ground.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Spose we can't have too many spiders then.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's how I met my first husband

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We have Tarantula Hawks here locally that do that. Cool critters, they're quite chill if you don't bother em

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I can hear ED-E starting the battle music.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... but first the wasp will remove the spider's legs; no meat in spider legs. I see this play out in my garden every summer and tbh, I have never seen a spider win the battle. Once a wasp finds a spider it's game over.

Spider think that’s cool too?

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

what is cool for the wasp is chaos for the spider, and the fly of this parable is having a panic attack in the corner

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nah yeah no worries

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I bet that is extremely uncomfortable for the spider.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Neat.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh good so you’re saying the spider’s totally gonna make it. Then the spider is gonna be a foster parent.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Fuck, that's hot.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

This kills the spider.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Does the spider resume living its life while the eggs are gestating or just existing as a live incubator?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Paralysed, never to move again. And, according to another comment, the wasp removes its legs. So that's nice too.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can't say the wasps aren't tidy.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This sounds vaguely familiar...

Should’ve listened to the smart person but no, no one did and here we are. Also was pissed off with the religious man in Prometheus and his ā€œwe must go to an unknown potentially dangerous planet to check why there’s earth music, god leads usā€. What an asshole.
