Children can drink beer there.

Wisconsin is an awesome state. Madison is really lively. Bring warm clothes
TealButterfly
Pick Minnesota instead..
microman55
Buy a gun on your first day.

I’d tip

Beware of the streets downtown on the isthmus, they turn into one-ways at the weirdest places.
And the High Noon Saloon is good place for live music.

Cheese curds, cheese curds, cheese curds, you're welcome
curiousgeorge01
Mosquito repellant.
CrackerwiththeBeaner
Go see a Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers or Milwaukee Bucks game. Pro sports are always a fun time!
The Badgers play in Madison btw, season tickets are less than $400 so you get 7 games for that, good deal if you enjoy (American) football
silentjay01
Also, the Brewers in Milwaukee. They were pretty good this year.
Not a baseball fan so I always forget about them :p

Learn to drink. You may think you know how.... but not Wisconsin how! Oh yeah learn to like brats and cheese.
Should be fine on this

People are saying dress warm, but specifically @op get lined water proof boots like sorel brand, water resistant jacket, water proof gloves
And a good warm hat if your jacket doesn’t have a hood

1. Buy warm clothes. 2. No you don't understand, Sydney's lowest average temperature is 47, Madison has an average high of 27 in January!
3. Learn to drink to stay warm and make friends! 4. Learn to hate Illinois and Minnesota to make more friends! 5. Michigan is okay though.
tofudisan
By dressing warm that means LAYERS. Also Michigan isn't ok except the UP which is honorary Wisconsin.
I always forget about the rest of Michigan, since I'm from farther north.

Old Sugar Distillery has board game night on Thursday... Also some of the best mixed drinks in the city! Plus good craft booze!
There will be a time this winter where for at least 3 days it WILL NOT get above 0°F. You will still be expected to go to work/school
And not take a beach day?
Doctorgivemethenews
They’re literally the same place, 15k kilometers difference, is all.
baldorr
Take the overnight train to Melbourne at some point. Melbourne is the best city ever! Sydney is alright too.
Other way <— leaving Sydney
Haha, I’m an idiot. Oops!! But Madison is awesome! You’ll enjoy it for sure.
Also, in the summer take a trip up to Door County along the Lake Michigan coast. Beautiful stuff.

Best sandwich in Madison: World's Greatest Sandwich at Mickey's Tavern on Willie St.
darthreaper08
Olbrick gardens, there's a bunch of stuff to do down in the square by the capitol
All clearly the most important place you should visit is the mustard museum in Middleton the town right next to Madison

State street. Farmers market in summer, Taste of Madison end of August. Devils lake. Lake Geneva. EAA Oshkosh Air show. Wisconsin Dells.
Summerfest. Try out tubing the Sugar or Wisconsin rivers. It’s a great way to enjoy the beauty of Wisconsin whilst drunk.
MrRandyDarsh
Madison is a great city. There's a lot to do and the state is a great place to explore! There are a few things it's worth noting though.
'Up North' is a place. Hard to describe but everyone from here knows what it is. Going up north typically involves lake living or hunting.
Drinking is a big part of social structure here. There are lots of people who act like assholes with it but mostly it's a good time with ppl
Beer is big here but Old Fashioneds are a way of life. A sugar cube with bitters, brandy, muddled orange, and soda (Sprite or 50/50).
Gotta try and old fashioned at least once. Try getting one from "The Old Fashioned" near the state capital building. See how you like it!
Summers are great but winter is 'go time'. Learn to live in and love the cold. Biggest thing is learning how to drive in snow. Seriously.
ThePartyLeader
Do you like cheese and beer?
That I do
Try Spotted Cow beer, and eat fried cheese curds. You can't go wrong.
You’ll fit right in.
Sweet, do you also like the smell of thousands of cows farting and paper mills?
It is my preferred cologne
