As most of you know I make wood stuff, mostly pens but still wood, anyway I chose to spend my semester making my Christmas preset to my parents. The above is the main salad bowl made of ebony and hickory, used butcher block oil to "stain" the wood, will seal at a later date (sealant is shipping).
Top view, each of the following is made of different width pieces cut at an angle on the table saw, glued together to form a ring and then spun on a lathe to make circular.
Made 6 complementary salad plates to go with (picture is before oil)
All of them are different, close ups are as followed, the plates can hold liquid at the moment but the large one can't due to a seam that is just barely coming apart, will fix at a later date. All of the plates have a top ring of Ebony and a bottom ring of hickory.

He ebony looks stunning good work. The plates don't look like ebony to me though they look a lot like black walnut.....

U know it took about an hour and a half after posting it to realize that I'm an idiot and that's actually all walnut lmao sorry for that

The bowl stole my heart out of all of these. The ebony is so beautiful.
