Technically they aren't offering insurance to hetero couples either. If same-sex couples were married they would be covered.

What's their policy on opposite sex unmarried couples?
With most insurances I know of it's pretty standard to offer no insurance to partners unless you are married.

I have insurance through my SO and we're not married. It's actually up to the company you work for not the insurance company.
I'm guessing this is updating policy from when gay marriage was illegal.
