I Think My pfSense Box Is A Bit Overbuilt...
I built a pfSense machine for my home network, but I think I may have overbuilt it just a tad. This was the heaviest load I put on my network thus far: saturating the downstream side of my broadband connection, streaming live TV off all three tuners on a HDHomeRun Prime, and having a bunch of wired and wireless devices do a mess of file transfers all at the same time. Basically I tried to deliberately bog down a gigabit network. I couldn't get the pfSense box to break 5% on the processor utilization.
Not liking the CPU temp though. It's too high for the load. I think the CPU fan speed might need to be dialed up a bit.

How local file transfer would impact your router ? If those machines are on the same L2 your overbuilt router won't see anything anyway.

Look up the operating range for your chip before you worry. I have a couple that can cook at 100+ for more than 24hrs without a hiccup.

A better (cooler) physical location for your server is better than just dialing up the fans.
