She was a "he": Meet Blondie

Apr 5, 2018 4:33 AM

Meet Blondie previously known as Norman. Less than a year old, sold as a boy but the cute girlie singing and tail feather and wing pattern gave her away. She likes to sit on the tv and watch us and looj out the window and sits on my laptop when I browse.

Likes a good shout when she wants to come out. Guy in shop said 30 mins a week. She's out for a few hours every day.

30 MINUTES A WEEK? That's an outrage! MINIMUM 30min/day, preferably 4h or more. Parrots are social and suffer without lots of companionship.

So after it's first moult it has retained barring on the tail?

Yup. That's what got me suspicious. I think there was a post online that showed it very well. and I sussed it from that.

Mutations make it difficult to sex but should still have some visual on barring on the tail after the first full moult if it is a female.

Well she lost most if not all of her tail feathers and the barring is pretty distinct now and on the wings.

Awesome. Enjoy, they are fantastic birds. Bred loads when I was younger.
