In 2016 Donald Trump was elected into office by the Electoral College which supersedes the popular vote.
Orange idiot: 304
Hillary Clinton: 227
Popular votes:
Convicted felon: 62,984,828
Found lawfully using her emails: 65,853,514
I could see the future of the 2024 election going the same way where the populace votes for Biden but some old useless system dictates that we have an infinite lifetime of an orange dictator and his cronies
For those not in the US here's some history. Way back 246 years ago when most of the population was uneducated, illiterate, and got most of their news from someone shouting in the town square, our forefathers created the electoral college. This system was essentially created to give fairness to areas of small populations with large land. It helped bring a voice of the populace into a smaller number based on land mass AND population rather than just population. At the time most who voted couldn't read the laws being passed. So this made some sense.
Fast forward to today and the system still exists. You have some states that will only be voting Blue or Red but then you have swing states and this is where the issue lies. A state like California has its voices dominated by large urban communities (ie los Angeles, San Francisco, and so forth) rather than the smaller populace in towns you and I have never heard of. Even still the voices of those smaller towns are heard in both the house and Senate by (gerrymandered) voting districts. But what happens when 1 major city like say Boulder Colorado votes blue and the rest of the state votes red. The electoral college of the state of Colorado would vote 1(b) and 9(r) for 10 total votes. This means that the 20% of the population outside of Boulder has more say than the 80% within
Please understand that not all of this is 100% factual. Colorado has 10 electoral votes. I have no idea how they are dictated or where the votes are coming from. My issue is that the electoral college has the ability to nullify the popular vote. This doesn't happen often (1824 house, 1876, 1888, 200, 2016 provided by wiki) but it happened in 2016 and I wouldn't be surprised if it occurs again here in 2024 by the magats who have fully infected the US government
I'm not saying don't vote. Every single one counts. I'm saying everyone should be worried about this and sending letters to their Senate/house representatives to abolish a system that no longer benefits the country. Our voices are heard and ignored by this system. It needs to end

She was not lawfully using her email. Classified information needs to be protected by everyone who has access to it. If I did what she did, I'd still be in prison and would probably die there.
Clockworkdancerobot
The more progressives and people who want change in the house and senate, the easier it is to overturn these ancient structures.

If you live in one of the yellow states, sign up with Biden's campaign. If not, send them money.

Look on the bright side. If Trump "wins again" you won't have to worry yourself about the electoral college ever again. Or the popular vote.

Yeah. Register. Vote. Your vote cancels out a MAGAs, no matter where you are. Red state? So much the better.

Me too buddy. Me too.

2016 was stolen.
Registration fraud > counting/collection fraud. Mass false registration suppressed Clinton’s votes and was written off as voter error. Trump was supposed to find fraud planted to frame us in 2020 if it couldn’t keep him in office. He’s not trying to win, guys. He’s trying to save himself and MAGA from being delegitimized by controlling the narrative. Putin is behind this plot.

It should be fine. Trump has both ruined the GOP donations and their organization ability. Mostly by trying to twist the GOP to only focus on electing him and to funnel all the money into his own pockets.
Putting aside how badly Trump has run his new campaign. It is a big question if the GOP will function at all. This hits "less important" elections the most which is ironic since Trump would need both the house and congress to do anything as president.
Basically, it looks pretty safe.

I feel you. I was so certain the last time someone so stupid could never be voted president by the American people. I was stunned. Now I am wary that the stupid people in the swing states will win than the popular vote. Really hoping for anyone but Trump.
Theshnazzyone
Just remember, Electoral college does not change your influence on your congressmen and no amount of gerrymandering can withstand a strong voter turnout. A democratic supermajority is necessary to eliminate the electoral college.

Yeah, I live in a deeply red state, so my presidential vote is meaningless either way
LBoogy99
I think the scariest and most dangerous scenario is Trump wins but there is enough evidence of voter fraud committed by republicans to overturn the election. However trying to overturn would lead to chaos and violence.
allcattywampus
If Trump loses there will also be violence because he'll claim the election was rigged and his stupid thuggy supporters will believe him
Jarodamus
Have GOP ever won the popular vote?
