That actually sounds like the worst place to get sun burn.

Went to a nude beach once. I was super careful about putting sun tan lotion on my dong every 30-60 minutes. I wasn't taking any chances.

I've been that burnt when wearing sunscreen. Ended up in hospital. My skin isn't suited to being Australian.
I have been this burnt not drunk. Failure to plan & bring sunscreen/reapply on a day trip in a place pale ass people dont occur naturally.

I was studying outside in the sun and fell asleep on top of my textbook. Let me tell you, it was not fun. Not fun at all.

Not necessarily. You can get sun poisoning without getting burnt.

Sun sickness? Isn't that heat exhaustion or more severely heat stroke?
StandAgainstTyranny
Iirc, it's a combo of dehydration, overheating, and chemical poisoning from your tissue releasing potassium as it cooks in the sun. No joke.
Morrigi
And a dash of radiation poisoning to top it all off.
AccountCreatedToUpdogVotes
No, sun sickness is actually a type of mild radiation poisoning. Heat exhaustion/stroke are primarily caused by severe dehydration and
inability to release excess heat, normally because the outside temperature is too high. I've had sun sickness on a 70°F day because I was
out for 8 hours with no protection. Still drank the proper amount of water.
BambiDefender
Nah m8, the peeling.... oh god the peeling. He'd beat pray it don't blister either
Purtypreencess7
fuuuuck the blisters.
Expiredroses
I burned so bad once that my legs swelled so much you couldn't tell i had knees or ankles. Entire front of my legs were blisters and cracked
Is it kind of like when you pour melted wax on your skin and peel it or is it painful as fuck?
The burn hurts, the peeling doesn't. Remember that episode from Malcolm in the Middle, when Reese peeled his whole body?
mercifulwombat
It's a burn. On your whole body. Blisters mean it's a second degree burn. If hurts.
What about just a mild sunburn where you dont get blisters does the peeling still hurt?
dustygamedev
No but wherever you are burnt is very tender to the touch. If it's on your back wearing a shirt/sitting on a chair can hurt/cause discomfort
Sometimes it itches like a bitch, to the point where it's hard to fall asleep.
ellavator
Peeling doesn't hurt. It's kind of itchy and it's fun to peel, the skin off and see how big of a piece of skin I can get without it tearing.
canadianmaplesizzurp
Nope.. just gross
ErinInStereo
Sun poisoning is fucking bitch. It nearly ruined a vacation on Florida for me once. ALWAYS PUT ON SUNSCREEN! Your skin will thank you.
ThaEnder
As a kid I would stay outside in my above ground pool for 5+ hours at a time without sunscreen. Nothing happened.
Lucky. I burn very easily, and even after slathering tons of sunscreen on, I'll still burn a little.
I probably wouldn't be as lucky now since I don't go outside nearly as much and my tolerance has gone down.
And properly hydrate, although that is for heat stroke.
reapply. reapply. reapply. reapply.
Zombraina
YES! That is the key part. I learned better and next time I went to the beach and reapplied while my family didn't. I didn't burn or tan.1/
They burned.

Florida man here. Oh yes, this happens.
YNotZoidberg1077
I was 12 and it was day 2 on a week-long trip to Florida. I got 2nd degree sunburn: blisters, swelling, red, pain, nausea. It was miserable.
We had to find a doctor's office in a far-away state that took our insurance (this was the 90s, so not really internet). Pain meds. Aloe.
Had to wear gauze pads with aloe under my shirts until the blisters healed up. Clothing was painful. Everything hurt when I moved.
Skin healed, peeled, sloughed off, was gross. It fucking sucked. Also, bad/repeated sunburn increases skin cancer risk. That guy's fucked.

Hilaritybomber
Is that what it is? I have the same problem but always attributed it to a weakness to heat, not the sun. Like overheating too easily.
Burke616
If you're keeping yourself cool but still getting those symptoms, you're probably getting low-level sun poisoning. I'm allergic to sun, so.
Yeah. I worked in hot places like kitchens etc, but that's only uncomfortable and doesn't affect me as long as I got my salt and water /1
epoke
As a brown guy, I appreciate your investigation. This was new to me as well.
pantzonfire
Asian here. I've had some bad burns, but never blistered or gotten "sun sickness". that's crazy.
Sun sickness is literally mild radiation poisoning.
Never blistered, either, but yeah, sun sickness. Also, I'm totally making a appointment with a dermatologist in the next weeks - I think /1
the skin damage from 20-30 years ago is starting to show, like, more spots and such. Better safe than sorry.
rezpawner
Fuck you and your high amount of melanin that allows you to go outside during the summer.
DO yuo really have to look outside some days and go "naw that aint for me"?
Yes. Black Flag days in particular.
PowwerOrb13
Definitely. Sunny days are the worst during summer, and days after a clean snow in winter. Overcast is where I like it
Stostri
Yep, severe enough sunburns can cause blistering, swelling, dehydration, and a very upset stomach. And that's before the skin peels off.
mroranges
Let's not forget about the itch. The horrible, unending, shrieking itch
Also, you can die from kidney failure if it's bad enough. Iirc, the burnt tissue releases lots of potassium. No bueno, señor.
Gehirnspaghetti
Also also, the long term effects of sunburn give you a higher chance of skin cancer
JanetVanDyne
The first time I experienced the skin peeling I panicked, I didn't know what it was. Mom said it's because I don't get enough sun.
I don't think you can build up a tolerance to sun if you're really pasty and pale
jmcurious
Yeah you won't have a good time with second degree burns :(
and if you get burned enough times severely enough you can develop skin cancer.
ElecTech
Enough times can be 1 if you're that unlucky with the damage to your skin's dna.
It's not a time limit, it's just luck whether or not the cells mutate and spread

Also, the blisters are basically liquid-filled sacks that leak all day long. It's super great stuff.
And stick to sheets or clothing.

We need to take all the sarcastic comments here and call the white facts.
AgolfHiller
Curse? We're immortal. Everytime we get sunburned we shed or skin and age and start anew, a little sickness is nothing
27yoUGLYvirgin
It's ironic because every time we get sunburned we get a little closer to death. There's basically a sunhour limit that we can take b4 cancer
PracticallyHitler
Then we get cancer and die, BUT before that we are indeed immortal
OMG lol i kind of want to start teaching people that
epsteinxdidntxkillxhimself

CthulhusGreasyBallsack
the entire point of having more melanin in your skin is to prevent damage from the sun

Zeema101
Do black people not burn as badly as white?
Dark skinned people have a higher rate of undiagnosed skin cancer. They don't get sunburnt as easily but cancer is ubiquitous.
In 30+ years of life i have never put on sunscreen or gotten sun burned i dont know any black people that have to be honest.
It can happen, particularly in areas of high elevation or greater exposure, but it's not particularly common.
forestfinagle
That's pretty awesome. As a ginger, I often wonder if I should move to the uk to be with my peoples. My skin loved it there on vac.
I felt for you the moment you said ginger
WillUleimi
It's possible for darker skinned people to burn, but it very unlikely. I am half black and half white and I have never burned. We do tan tho
elBajoNegro
We don't burn at all. We just get slightly darker. My wife is Mexican and she doesn't burn either. She just turns golden brown.
What skin tone does she have? I'm Mexican too and I turn golden brown when sun burned too, but I dunno many people with my skin tone.
It's not white enough to be "white" but also not dark enough to be "brown".
She's darker than most Mexicans. Most people confuse her for Dominican or Puerto Rican for some reason
floeppoep
I'm half brown and half white and I've never gotten a sunburn
ChemicalPorpoise
Go to the equator. Had quite a few friends who said similar learn what a sunburn is there.
Also go to higher elevations where less UV light is filtered by the ozone layer.
AxelYamanaka

margaretolson
Oh they can. My mon is Jamaican and got a TERRIBLE sunburn in Barbados in the 90s.
MasticatingMastodon
They do, it's just much harder for it to happen. Source : I googled and read some li k descriptions. didn't click em though.
gwenniechan
Melanin (source of black skin) absorbs UV light (source of sunburn). However black people heat up faster and produce less vitamin D.
Disclaimer: I'm a white ginger whose skin can't tan at all. I just know some science shit because lonely nerd childhood.
Related to my first post, redheads have mutated endorphin producers that make red phenomelanin instead. Causes many different effects.
The vitamin D thing is actually from centuries of being deprived milk during slave times i know it sounds wacky a white professor taught me
PirateRubberDuck
They produce less for the same amount of uv due to originating from a hotter climate. People have adapted over time.
Knilore
Actually the vitamin D thing relating to melanin production goes back a lot earlier than domestication and milk from other animals.
HappySpandex
i think it would take a little more than 400 years to genetically change a group of people. plus, they didnt drink milk in china and they 1
I'm talking about production of Vitamin D from UV light. Nordic peoples have increased lactase persistence so they can digest milk as adults
SuicidalPlantpot
1. I don't think that's right, vitamin D is produced by the absorption of sunlight and not everyone who is black is descended from slaves.
TheSisko
Vitamin D only started to be added to milk in the latter half of the 20th century.
eatyourmeat
It's why black people are black. They evolved to resist the sun and white people evolved to absorb more sun.
HighlySexualLobster
Our root stock was black. The offshoots who moved away from the equator became lighter.
DeadHamster
Recent discoveries of early human ancestors in Eastern Europe could potentially disprove this.
TheSilverToaster
Exactly this. The increased melanin that causes darker skin is an adaptation from hotter regions of the world, where there's more sun
Or rather, the other way around. Light skin is an adaptation to less sunlight.

My friend is pasty white British girl. We were in France & went topless on beach, Her boobs went blazing red in 2 hours. So painful

That actually sounds like the worst place to get sun burn.

Went to a nude beach once. I was super careful about putting sun tan lotion on my dong every 30-60 minutes. I wasn't taking any chances.

Two hours? I burn after about 10-15 minutes.

Yeah. He's probably already dead.

I have been that sunburnt. It left a bib of freckles. Almost 30 years later, I can still see the outline of the top of the swimsuit.
mkingi
I've got that freckle line on my arms from wearing t-shirts all my life
Batonrougeisnotsobad
I have that, too, but it took 25 years or so. This bit on my décolleté took 45 minutes of sun. Some lessons you learn the hard way.

Try the southern hemisphere. I got burned walking from the car to the entrance to Sea World.

That's a little crazy. I live at 3300 feet altitude so it gets bad enough, especially in the mountains.

This is essentially sun poisoning. The burn doesn't cause dehydration, but is one of the signs of sun poisoning. Esp this bad.
Jufasa
Sun poisoning is just another word for a bad sunburn
guerillagirl
Not necessarily. You can get sun poisoning without getting burnt.
idontgiveafuckeither
My sun poisioning is welts, blisters, nausea, and a fever. It basically feels lkke the flu on top of a bad sunburn. Not fun:(

Heat exhaustion/stroke are primarily caused by severe dehydration and
AccountCreatedToUpdogVotes
inability to release excess heat, normally because the outside temperature is too high. I've had sun sickness on a 70°F day because I was
AccountCreatedToUpdogVotes
out for 8 hours with no protection. Still drank the proper amount of water.
BambiDefender
Nah m8, the peeling.... oh god the peeling. He'd beat pray it don't blister either

I burned so bad once that my legs swelled so much you couldn't tell i had knees or ankles. Entire front of my legs were blisters and cracked
letstalknews
Is it kind of like when you pour melted wax on your skin and peel it or is it painful as fuck?
PreciousPotato
The burn hurts, the peeling doesn't. Remember that episode from Malcolm in the Middle, when Reese peeled his whole body?
mercifulwombat
It's a burn. On your whole body. Blisters mean it's a second degree burn. If hurts.
letstalknews
What about just a mild sunburn where you dont get blisters does the peeling still hurt?
dustygamedev
No but wherever you are burnt is very tender to the touch. If it's on your back wearing a shirt/sitting on a chair can hurt/cause discomfort
AccountCreatedToUpdogVotes
ErinInStereo
Lucky. I burn very easily, and even after slathering tons of sunscreen on, I'll still burn a little.

I probably wouldn't be as lucky now since I don't go outside nearly as much and my tolerance has gone down.

I was 12 and it was day 2 on a week-long trip to Florida. I got 2nd degree sunburn: blisters, swelling, red, pain, nausea. It was miserable.
YNotZoidberg1077
We had to find a doctor's office in a far-away state that took our insurance (this was the 90s, so not really internet). Pain meds. Aloe.
YNotZoidberg1077
Had to wear gauze pads with aloe under my shirts until the blisters healed up. Clothing was painful. Everything hurt when I moved.
YNotZoidberg1077
Skin healed, peeled, sloughed off, was gross. It fucking sucked. Also, bad/repeated sunburn increases skin cancer risk. That guy's fucked.

Is that what it is? I have the same problem but always attributed it to a weakness to heat, not the sun. Like overheating too easily.

If you're keeping yourself cool but still getting those symptoms, you're probably getting low-level sun poisoning. I'm allergic to sun, so.

JanetVanDyne

Melanin (source of black skin) absorbs UV light (source of sunburn). However black people heat up faster and produce less vitamin D.
gwenniechan
Disclaimer: I'm a white ginger whose skin can't tan at all. I just know some science shit because lonely nerd childhood.

Related to my first post, redheads have mutated endorphin producers that make red phenomelanin instead. Causes many different effects.
letstalknews
The vitamin D thing is actually from centuries of being deprived milk during slave times i know it sounds wacky a white professor taught me
PirateRubberDuck
They produce less for the same amount of uv due to originating from a hotter climate. People have adapted over time.
Knilore
Actually the vitamin D thing relating to melanin production goes back a lot earlier than domestication and milk from other animals.
HappySpandex
i think it would take a little more than 400 years to genetically change a group of people. plus, they didnt drink milk in china and they 1
gwenniechan
PreciousPotato
Or rather, the other way around. Light skin is an adaptation to less sunlight.
