(TL/DR- My pup went through an hour long seizure leading to multi-night, multi-thousand dollar medical issues and I can't stand not knowing what's wrong or how to fix it!)
This is my little midget. If anyone's ever seen my posts, you've probably seen this little ball of gray anxiety that pretty runs my heart.
After she was diagnosed with "unknown reason/seizures/possible epilepsy, she was put on phenobarbital.
She's such a good and very smart pup. If I had the videos I could show you her dance on 2 legs, and do a bunch of other tricks and stuff. But that's not why I'm here.
I'm here bc 4 nights ago, this little dorkmonster had herself another seizure. She's been having this problem off and on since she was 8 months old. The seizures are usually few and far between, thankfully. But this latest one... this last one, ... scared me.
She seized for nearly an hour. My heart was in my throat the entire time. My brain was mush and if I wasn't trained to handle extreme situations, I would've been a giant ball of mush that can barely focus on any 1 thing. Let alone the most important parts of getting her help.
Monday night around 11pm she started her issue. She sort of goes rigid and shakes uncontrollably. She's still able to look around and interact to small degrees. She can still move a bit but it's plain to see that something is awfully, amazingly, disturbingly WRONG!
I immediately took her to an all night vet emergency room where upon they tried certain injections and things to no avail. They rushed her in and did their magic behind the curtains with only small and random updates for a few hours.
After about an hour of this, they brought me into an exam room and brought her in. They finally got the seizing to stop and by my (and their) timing it lasted roughly 68 minutes. (That's the closest guess).
Now they wanna keep her all night for tests, and blood tests, and monitoring and so on. So, of course I agree. How could I not?!
I leave her overnight and they called to get me to ok more tests and more test and more tests!
It started with blood draw. Then it was an MRI. Then it was to administer anesthesia for a (forget the words) procedure where they take the fluid from your spinal column. Spinal tap to check for idk? Ameobas in her brain fluids?
At this point they're grasping at straws. They have no idea what's going on with her and after $6,471.88 I get back the EXACT SAME diagnosis I had before she went in the very first time nearly a year and a half ago. Unknown epileptic episodes.
Now she's on a different medicine that costs more and needs to be given 3 times a day instead of 2.
I'm getting so tired guys.
It's so hard to keep pushing. To keep working nonstop. 8 or 12 hour shifts every single day. No weekends. No friends. No one to talk to or bitch to. No one to vent to. No money to even remotely begin figuring out how to pay bills and rent when I spent it all on my little ones medical stuff. But how could I not?
Am I failing as a person when I spent the little savings I had on saving her? I could never imagine doing otherwise. She's part of the family. There are people out there who tell me I'm crazy for doing it and all that may come of it is my fault and to shut up and deal with it.
I really could never imagine saying no to saving her little life. She my baby.
I have my son, and I love him with all my heart and soul, I live my pup no less. Am I just wrong for feeling that way?
What do you random electronic people think?
I just wish her diagnosis wasn't so "we have zero idea what's going on and wasted your thousands of dollars of money to tell you we still have no idea"
Thanks for reading (if you bothered) I'm done venting. I just needed to get it out or I was gonna start screaming at everyone.
I think the kicker from this whole thing is how they shaved her head for the spinal tap. It's like an inverse Mohawk. She looks like she has the bald spot of an 80 year old man. My poor baby. I love that little goober

((hugs)) Spending to save a loved one is never wrong. I’m so sorry you’re in this position.

Thanks. She's doing good right now. I mean aside from the inverse Mohawk she has. She kinda looks like a 90 year old man shrunk into a puppy and kept the hair on the head the same. She looks like such a doofus.
I just wish they knew what the problem is. They're just guessing. After eliminating all the "possibilities" they can think of, they start blaming things I'm doing/not doing. Which foods I feed her, what treats she gets, what cleaners do I leave around she gets into... ¹

² it's just really really frustrating!!! And work is annoyed at me bc I've been taking time off so I can get her to an emergency vet, or get her meds or ... sorry. I'm just being whiney.
I appreciate the thought and love. Thank you.
