Better house maintenance, seal any cracks/holes leading inside, put screens on attic vents, new door sweeps. Prevent them from getting in.

They're harmless. You can leave them alone (they're not the brightest and will die inside if left alone) or escort them outside.

Thats is what we generally call a shield beetle. Also called stink bug, or turtle beetle. Depending on where you are and how bad it is, 1/2
2/2 yellow fly paper works well if it's minor. if you're near farmland, especially fruit farms it's a hazard of the environ.

If you hit it with a shoe, then not only will it smell bad, but more will come to the area. That is a bad idea.
