I knew a dude with ABI who was in his 60's at the time when i knew him, he once broke both his legs jumping out a window to escape whatever horrible things were happening to him in an institution when he was a young man. Incredibly sweet and gentle guy, loved sitting with a coffe or tea and watching baseball in the park. I think about him a lot.

Institutionalization, like prison, costs the state even more than allowing the person to live in their own home. I guess the trick here is that the facilities are privately owned so it can be a racket between whoever decides who gets put in and the owners of such places. Just like prison.
