A lot of weight in meet is water, so when make it into jerkey you lose ~75% of it. So 4oz package = 1 lbs of steak.

What exactly is a beef "jerky"? We have beef meat *starting* at 400rs (~USD6) a kg here. How's that compare to the price there?
Lean, seasoned, dried, cured beef cut into thin strips about 12cm long. What cut of the beef? Consult the Jerkyholic! Link>
https://www.jerkyholic.com/best-cuts-of-beef-for-jerky/
It's lean beef without all the water and lots of seasoning. So take a kg of wet beef, reduce its mass by 70% and charge the same price.
Snaggley
The bag sizes keep getting smaller and the price keeps increasing. Its so good but I won’t spend $7 for a 2.85 oz bag.
dafawkudoin
Actually the bags are getting huge! 2.0 oz of jerky in a gallon size bag (56g in a 3.78 litre bag for those on the sensible system)

It's not healthy. Red meat has above 300 calories/100 gram in its normal state aswell as being a contributor to cancer. Take out the water

Water contains 0 calories so how can meat decrease in calorie count when the water is removed? Makes 0 sense
and the calorie count probably increases to about 450-500 per 100g I guess
