Biology exists as a spectrum due to the complexity of the genome. There is no yes/no in biology...while most nucleotide pairs are identical, there are still a large number of active protein coding pairs that can be different. Ultimately, the results will form a Normal distribution, mirroring what happens at the macro level.

Even in Physics, you have calculation and measurement errors to adjust for. Yields in inorganic chemistry will not hit 100%, and in organic chem, yeah, some yields will be 50%.

They didn't. Pretend the genetics are based on dice rolls of 5 20 sided dice. You *could* roll the dice repeatedly, recording all possible combinations and eventually get close to the actual number of combinations, but the smarter thing to do would be multiply the variables to reach the total. It may be that they don't know the exact number of variables, but they know enough to say that it's in the range of 20k combinations.

The biological argument is a complete distraction. Biology has no bearing on how we treat each other. It is not a valid reason to tell someone they can or cannot be or do anything. Anyone who calls upon the biology of the conversation is doing so because they don't have a moral or ethical or even logical reason behind their position.

So I didn't learn about human intersex traits until well into my adulthood where it was pointed out to me by an intersex trans woman that I probably was partly androgen insensitive. They also only knew about this because they found out that they were partly androgen insensitive when blood testing for HRT.
I'm not defending the bigots I'm just saying that high school biology taught US that sex was a binary and we only found out it wasn't by personally being outside the binary.

People don’t pay attention in school.
There’s a pervasive perception that school is “brainwashing”, “babysitting”, and otherwise mere training to be wage slaves. Kids ignore what they’re taught, randomly guess on tests, and walk out expecting their own clever street smarts to carry them through life.
Then we get posts here about how “tHeY dOn’T tEaCh ThIs In ScHoOlS!” by grown adults who are amazed to hear that history actually happened.
It’s no surprise that kids ignored biology class, too.

That's Conservative propaganda. Millennials are the most educated generation in history, and Gen Z is set to surpass us. Yes, there are a lot of problems and gaps in how education is conducted, but by and large, each subsequent generation is better educated than the previous, which is like the whole point.

I don't know if my school ever really even covered biological sex... We did human anatomy (mostly the names of body systems and memorizing bones), facts about different plants and animals, and I know we did the Punnett Squares thing...
But I think they just kinda assumed that knowing the terms male and female was good enough and never went into detail.

IDK. I went to high school in the Deep South pre-2000 and we definitely covered it. We covered it the same year I got to dissect a shark, which is probably why I remember it.

Well you gotta remember, while much of the south was pretty backwards in those days their insanity really kicked into gear starting 9/11/2001. And I can't say for sure not knowing what school you went to but it sounds like a school with money if you were dissecting sharks. Many schools typically dissect frogs or rats, and schools lacking money (like mine) dissected nothing.
