I saw this on a friend's page and answered 100 and thought I would get to move on with my life, but then the answers started rolling in. One person even actually said 30. Am I wrong?

Yes you are wrong. Not by any fault of your own though. Cost profit ratio comes into play so answer between $30 and $170 could be correct.

I would say $200.00

It's 100$ the owner still losses 70$ worth of merchandise. He gets his 70 in cash back in exchange

It's $170, seeing as the original $100 was lost, then $70 in groceries. The $30 he gave back is part of the first $100.

Slightly more than $100 because of the fixed costs it took to operate the store.

I think $100. $70 worth of goods and $30 cash.

You are not wrong.

$200. Actual value may differ based on operation costs and legal fees after he stabs the woman to get his stolen money and merchandise back

These questions are worded specifically to trip people up. Hes down 100$ in the till regardless of what she spent

How much were the goods actually worth?

I think that the price set on them, regardless of increase, wouldn't be specific to the thief so it wouldn't be related.
