I've seen other people build these things and as a stone mason I figured it'd be easy--it wasn't. But it was fun. I could say the same for stone work.
Some people asked how I built this. I'm not about to put together a tutorial right now, but here's the foundation going in.

That's great! My family built one of these in our yard in 2021 in MN, was an awesome activity. We topped it off by ordering pizza and having them deliver it to the igloo and we ate it inside!

I have a wooden door--a piece of plywood that was used as the form for the arch. It can be placed back in the doorway, whenever you want to keep the spot warmer

Looks like you've built rings on rings, and not one continuous ring that builds on itself. Your stonemason skills probably saved you, but it's not structurally sound. Also, your door needs to be lower than your floor or you'll carbon monoxide yourself to death. Looks awesome though

You should start on about 2m of snow and dig down a meter, that first meter is your foundation. Then you build one ring that looks all the way up to your capstone, then you cut the door out and build the surround. My best one stayed up 2 months and you could stand on the roof, all in Australian (ie shit) snow.

#2 Wow, I have never been in snow but I just discovered a sound I hate worse than the squeak of sand underfoot. That's what the sound is, right? Walking on snow?
