Saw this little baby at the shelter and immediately fell in love, although I wasn’t planning to adopt another cat. This was her hiding place for the first week.

Except when she hid behind the washer. She was found at 3 months nearly dead with a severe case of cat flu. She luckily made it but lost an eye. She spent 6 months in the shelter because she was feral and wouldn’t let anyone touch her. They were looking for a home where she can be at peace without being touched.

I was okay with that. I have 3 already all shelter cats which all have bad stories. I thought she would fit in great. After 5 days she became very curious but still very very cautious.

You can see the fear in her eye.

She feel in love with my male cat Simba.

Personal space is a topic we are still working on

After she realised I wasn’t gonna try to touch her she came closer.

And closer

And 5 weeks after adoption that feral little kitten which was presumed to never be friendly asked me for pets.

And enjoyed it

A lot

So imgur meet amber ♥️ (and the companion cube)

My lil Salmon is the same way with attention. It has to be on her terms or not at all.

This healed my heart. Thank you for adopting such great vats. Had I been at the shelter i would have challenged you to rock paper scissors to adopt Amber.

We adopted a rescue cat who only had one eye. She only lived for a year with us (died of cancer), but she was the sweetest creature you could imagine.

I liked the name given by the shelter, amber, but I also got complaint why I didn’t rename her to Nala as she is in love with Simba

I won’t lie. I keep cat treats by the bed and gove them to the skittish kitties when they come over as I rub their ears. I have gotten them both to come over voluntarily, since they now associate the pets with something positive. (Still working on it with Toastie, but it is improving.)

Amber did eat out of my hand before I could touch her. Definitely works!

Have you tried fitting a googly eye?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Will absolutely do as soon as she is more comfortable and trusting with me. Don’t want to ruin the first trust.

Cats and dogs are still seriously misunderstood, but dogs adapt easier into packs even if they don’t really understand. Cats need to be respected in order to gain trust, and many humans dont know what that means and are also very selfish (i want to pet, i want to carry, i want to dress them up) with not enough perception to read very subtle signs of emotional states in our companion animals. You are clearly someone who is different and she noticed quickly. Thanks for helping them!

The shelter said that’s why they couldn’t find a home for her. Because she was presumed to never be friendly.
I would have been okay with just giving her a home with companions where she can ignore me. But I became clear soon that she really wants to be loved and just is so afraid.

Absolutely agree especially cats you just have to ignore so they can come on their own terms and pace

I too kept a couple fosters because one was feral and the other aggressive to be touched. Same reasoning as you, i kept them. Both made advances and i was happy they could get better just from extra patience! Thanks for helping them and her too!

Thank you for doing the same!

#6 This is one of the greatest photographs I've seen in a long time - composition, everything is hella great.

I'm also a sucker for Sad Cat Stories. Amber looks like she fell into the perfect place. HOORAY!!!

It really should. That is LITERALLY some Renaissance framing going on. Also, they look like Good Friends and I'm so 100% here for it. Our latest trash goblin showed up on our doorstep last July and he's just such a love. Is BFF with one of our other cats and frenemy to the last.

Just need someone to edit the swiffer out of the picture 😂

I mean, doing things like that is sort of my job :)

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Omg. That’s amazing. Thank you so much!

Frenemies describes it perfect.
He is often so done with her. And she is all over him.
Luckily he has hiding spots she didn’t figure out yet.
Rescues are the best. Most loving animals 🫶🏻

YES! All three of our cats are rescues. I'm not sure I've EVER had a cat who wasn't.

Sam Vimes is the tabby, he's the new one. He's got a tipped ear and tattoo from a TNR program - still had stitches and scabs when he decided that SUCKED and made me love him.

Safi is the hard-to-see black panther next to him.

And Sebastian is the tuxie who loves them both SO MUCH but even after almost two years with us, is still skittish of humans.
