I found the best way to deal with those kind of jokes is to innocently ask them to explain it. Force them to present their idea without humor and they quickly shut up and walk away.

A proper joke can feature racism to mock it. Sometimes it sets up like racist/stereotypical story but subverts expectations with wholesome punchline. The most important part is that everyone ends up laughing at the racism and not the victims of it.
I like humor where the entertainer, the audience, and the subject of the joke can hear and laugh about it together. Even if it uses stereotypes, it should be presented in a way that its absurdity is apparent to almost anyone that hears it.

Racism in humor isn't ALWAYS bad, but it has to be frosting not the cake. Blazing Saddles was amazing at making things funny without making fun of.

Part of why Blazing Saddles worked was because it was making fun *of* racists. The way a lot of people talk about it, it was just a big ball of raunchy racist humor but that's misunderstanding what made it funny and not hateful.

Oh god this is a mood, as someone who's done a lot of nursing home work. I always get the racist patients cus a lot of CNAs here are black and they always wanna get buddy buddy with me using the word colored unironically and it's like man, I'd rather you just called me a slur.

Russel Peters has talked about seeing the difference between where in the joke people laugh; there’s a difference between laughing in good fun and laughing at something that reinforces your racist feelings.

there's typically a crucial difference between jokes about a minority that minority enjoys and jokes about that minority they don't: who they're making fun of, and whether it comes from a place of ignorance or hatred. Or for normal people, you know how neurodivergent nerds will make fun of themselves but typically hate Big Bang Theory because it actually has no clue what it's talking about? It's like that, but if you ran into Big Bang Theory all the time.

I don't know where you got that quote from, but Hinchcliff proved it right. The guy insults another part of our country because what, they come "here" to "our country?" (It's the same country.) Because they suffered a natural disaster? And their presidential choice was okay with them dying? That's a disconnect from humanity for sure.
