It all started with an idea and an app
And a big canvas
Planned out some grids (which didnt help at all)
Lots of preplanning
I placed the letters on the cardboard to create a template
Finished the template (finally)
I outlined the letters in pencil first and then spent several hours cutting painter's tape into the stencil
I wanted the grid but with my long term plan I couldnt have a bunch of lines to be erased, so I carefully measured out and taped down string to create the grid instead. It was about as ineffective as you can imagine.
Rough sketches
Oh, Lord Commander...
So smoldering. So confused. So knowing nothing.
This was actually all done with pastel using a wide soft brush to apply, which gave these wonderfully soft strokes (that's what she said)
Work on the Mother of Dragons begins
Hmm.....
Oh god what the fuck have I done???
Lets... start over. She came out much better the second go around, although she took a week compared to Jon.
Aaaaaand finished! The piece felt like it was missing something so I added a dragon, which automatically makes everything better. And then of course it needed a wolf, because reasons.
This was all an original idea but Im really not much of a painter. I used to paint in highschool and just picked it back up this past year, so there's plenty of room for improvements. This was really enjoyable to work on though and a good learning experience.
Bonus: the moment my best friend of 15 years first saw it. This was her birthday present, since she's a huge fan of the book and the show and also an amazing person.
