My husband and I are gamers who have somehow never played any Fallout games. We have seen so much about Fallout 4 on here that we want to play it, but don't know which game to start with. Advice is appreciated

Play 4 then go back and enjoy 3 and new Vegas if you like 4 and then if you don't mind the change play the other fallouts

None of the stories really connect. You don't need background info to play 4 though there are Easter eggs that acknowledge previous games

Yeah, start with 3 & NV if you're going that route. 1&2 are.. well the interface hasn't aged well. Worth playing, but not required.

I've played Fallout New Vegas and some of Fallout 4, and I don't think you need to start from the beginning.

My own experience is that each game stands on its own - they share a setting, but are different times/regions.
