I read a crossover with Rowan Atkinson's Black Adder that used this exact joke

I have something to say!! It's better to burn out than to fade away!!

Nuns! No sense of humour...

Iconic line.
brambleheart
They need a character in the new one who is Scottish but played by Antonio Banderas. He does not even attempt a Scottish accent. No one mentions this.

Lambert’s vision was so bad that without his glasses fencing with him was insanely dangerous.

#4 I never noticed that!
gnomedeplume
the implication here is that after killing Ramirez and having his way with Connor's wife he spent time scrabbling about in the dark looking for where the head landed to steal the earring
to which: lol

Henry Cavill was injured training for the movie so it won't start filming until 2026

If i were a movie star, i'd be like, "OK, we're going to provide as much work for the stunt people as possible."

DemSumBigAssRidges
#6 He's called a "Highlander" because he's from the Highlands of Scotland. His "race" is known as The Immortals.
gnomedeplume
tell that to the people that keep milking the franchise
Ngugi
Aye, however, Duncan is also a Scotsman from the clan MacLeod and so is [beside a kinsman of Connor] another highlander, not merely another immortal.
allnewuserforyou
I've been a fan of this incredibly cheesy franchise since the mid-90s, and I never realized that. Thank you, internet stranger

I'm convinced you could do a decent reboot with Tom Hardy.

Who?
RevolutionOnHerLips
I definitely prefer the more normal look over some buff dude. I love in the first movie how normal they all looked (well, except Kurg.) Can't imagine wanting to see a version resembling superhero movies in any way.
CardeasIV
It is being remade with Cavill, tho
gnomedeplume
it still doesn't need it, even with Cavill
RevolutionOnHerLips
I stole this recurring joke off the internet that went something like "he who says this is the worst movie ever made has clearly never seen Highlander 2" and got so much use out of it until so many movies started coming out that were worse than Highlander 2. RIP in peace, joke that wasn't that funny, but which referenced my favorite squandered sequel franchise.
keillrandor
There's always Highlander:The Source instead? :P
TooSoonOldTooLateSmart
The second movie was so bad they recut it, and it is very hard to find the original. In the original, the immortals come from the planet Zeist. They got rid of that right quick.
emu314159127001
When did they recut it? For video/cable/streaming release? I only saw the original, and obviously I wasn't in a hurry to ever watch it ever again. The third wasn't terrible, just kinda silly. Ebert commented it worked in a sort of comic book way, but insultingly, not an epic Dark Knight/Watchmen graphic novel way.
gnomedeplume
yeah but they didn't change anything else about the Zeist scenes so now all the Immortals come from "The Distant Past"
it's putting a band-aid on an artery wound
jesuisgur
I remember watching it in the theatre as soon as it came out and shaking my head in aghast disbelief during... the entire movie. To this day I have a hard time finding a worst movie. I didn't know it was recut, nor do I care.
kevbot5000
Wait, that's not the version everyone saw? That's the only version I remember. (I also liked the movie which I doubt that would survive a rewatch)
gnomedeplume
if you saw it in the cinema or any of the early televised screenings or vhs prints it would have been the original theatrical version, once the Renegade Cut became available the original would have become a lot more scarce
kevbot5000
I don't remember where I first saw it but I'd swear I saw it on cable with the Veith bits, but I could be smooshing multiple memories of watching it together so who knows. (movie came out in 1991, renegade cut was 1995, so I'd assume it made it to some lousy cable channel before then)
mastertmo
#14 The TV show was probably the peak of the franchise. Yeah, it wasn't perfect, but once they figured out how to do longer story arcs it started rolling
Rayfire3535
And Duncan was HIM.
Tattooedpariah
If i remember right.. i got this done while roadie-ing a friends band on tour back in like 2002...
CitrusyGarlic
There was a TV show?
Junkman9096
Yes, was on the cheesy USA network. Also provided work for rock singers on hiatus from their day jobs.
mrsparkle001
Yes and it was superior. Just have to get through some awkwardness in the first season which is pretty normal for TV shows.
BishlamekGurpgork
Yes. Absolutely check out the TV show.
dap6000
Two even. There was a spin-off, too.
CitrusyGarlic
Thanks for the wiki links but it didn't answer the only other question I'm left with, what channel was it on? Because both my Dad and I were big Highlander fans and he watched a ton of TV during those days and would have told me about it had he ever seen it
dap6000
USA network I think during the initial run. I want to say there were reruns on sci-fi, which has shared ownership with USA. But these are vague memories from 30+ years ago. It’s also possible it was just totally syndicated so that local stations could take it or leave it. If that’s the case it would depend on what stations broadcast in your area.
dap6000
It was syndicated. It’s in the wiki. In the sidebar. Easy to miss.

US: Syndicated”

We'd started to enjoy the Raven by the end of the season, so it's too bad it didn't survive, but knowing the behind the scenes makes it clear it was lucky to finish 1 at all.

And an animated series. Though I don't remember watching it (but I do own the VHS because it came with cards for the CCG). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlander:_The_Animated_Series

correction: Bad-ASS-Anime!

they're not talking about that one, there was a French-produced animated series set in a distant post apocalyptic future starring a young immortal called Quentin MacLeod

and my correction is corrected!
thank you, didn't know about the French series
must investigate....

This is the best one (according to my hazy memory of my childhood).
