So my friend, lets call him Cash, and I are visiting another friend, let's call him Bud, in a city in California with "Legal" Pot dispensaries. So my friend Bud is the biggest stoner I have ever seen in my life. His consumption is off the charts. Anyway Cash and I are visiting a town that has legal dispensaries and we come from a city that does not. So we want to check one out. On the way there Bud asks Cash to buy him a cartridge for his vape pen because Bud won't go inside. I assume it's because Bud is worried about his job but it turns out that he is actually worried that the ATF will see that his name is on the dispensary list and cross reference it with the gun registry list and will come knock on his door to collect his 5 or so guns.

So either he is paranoid due to mass consumption of THC or I am naive.

You should put on a ski mask and kick his door in when he's sleeping yelling "ATF WHERE'S THE WEED AT"

There is a federal law that bans firearm ownership if found to use "illicit substances" including weed. But there is no national registry to

check. States and/or counties would have to submit names associated with firearm ownership for the feds to know. Which likely will never

happen. But crazier things have happened in history so I cant totally blame the guy for having his concerns.

They do ask if you've ever smoked weed when you buy a gun but given the current admin I doubt any Agency will cross reference any such lists

If you say "Yes" do you fail the background check?

The gun owner is legally obligated by federal law standards to not sell you the gun.

Whether or not he abides is a different story.
