A beautiful poem, and a beautiful accent!
artie500
Beautifully written, and beautifully spoke, yet I'm certain because of the times, there's a cadre of assholes lurking out there who'll knock it because it rhymes.

The Tl;dr: if we don't write our own stories, someone else will do it, and we may like that outcome.

Beautiful words, pretty girl, nice smile, and precious accent!

People ask me how I am, "Fabulous" is my response. I take all the good things that have happened in my life and put them in one column. Then I take all the bad things that have happened and put them in another column. I add up the good things, add up the bad things then add the two totals together to come up with the number of blessings I have received. The answer comes out as "One fucking lucky bloke".
KleptoKea
Funny how as soon as non-Americans speak, Americans remark on that person's accent like some ignorant tourist. These "Accents" are how people speak with one another in our own countries. It's not there for your amusement. We don't latch onto your accents everytime we hear you speak as if it's your defining feature because that would just be annoying wouldn't it?
usernamethatsstillavailable
Pretty sure remarking on accents different than your own is normal everywhere...
ZeRootOfAllEvil
If you want more, she has an audiobook called "Poyums"

This completely resonates. Damn I needed this today.

She has a book full of poems like this, called "poyums". She also has an Instagram channel where she regularly posts them (along with scottish language education content): @misspunnypennie

I am embarrassed. Thank you for the correction. Also, please lift the pitbull ban.

This brought me to tears. After years of abuse, not being fully protected after the revelation of said abuse, falling into the trap of religion and being told I was dirty, and then hating myself for the majority of teenage years and adulthood, I'm finally breaking free and becoming the adult that would have protected me. For the sake of my daughters and for my own inner child. Wow. This piece was very moving.
RunawaySpoons
I'm so sorry people put you through that, and glad you were able to escape in the end and are healing.
I'd recommend checking out more of her work, if/when you feel up to it ♡

I will <3
Dondarian
The single most beautiful person I have ever met...I HAVE EVER MET, was in Ireland in 2008 when I was vacationing there. She was a redheaded woman like her, but she had Heterochromia, and I will absolutely never forget how full and luscious her glorious hair was as she crossed traffic, turned around, whipped her over her shoulder as she turned her head towards my friend and I, and asked her friend (sadly, not me who had just fallen in love with her) if she was coming with her.
Dondarian
I had to shoot my shot, which I did, so I tagged along, and talked with her and her friend, and they were pleasant and cordial, but the angel that she was had goals and purpose, and was studying to be a lawyer, and was on her way to do more studying at her college. She bid me farewell, and gave me a kiss on the cheek, and thanked me for the conversation and company, and went into the library, and out of my life. I really hope she's doing well, beautiful Amber.
SonOfLucifer
the scottish accent stirs something inside me... and if you can understand what they're saying even more so!

Ew
And i say this as a person who loves to watch brit tv shows regularly 🧐
That accent is not it, gimme trashy essex anyday lol
KleptoKea
Her accent isn't British, and I'm sure she couldn't give half a toss about what you think of the way her people speak.
RunawaySpoons
She is from Scotland which is part of Britain, therefore her accent is British. Standard southern English is not the only British accent.
warpfactor1
It's nice to see you do though and cared enough to comment
PS it's already been factually established that scotland is infact part of great britain
MatePotate
Mate quit digging that hole deeper.
KleptoKea
You're talking about geography now, rather than accents. She doesn't have a Brit accent. Simple as that. Off ye go, ignorant one.
KleptoKea
And I love that you cared enough to downvote me mate.
Kallas267
I'll downvote you too. British is referencing the British Isles, which Scotland is absolutely part of. The British Empire refers to the empire established by Great Britain, which includes Scotland, otherwise it'd have been the English Empire.
Scottish is British. They're also distinct from English, and many English (and often many Americans) misuse British to refer to *English*, which is obviously a bit irritating to folks who would prefer Scottish (or Welsh, or Irish) to not be lumped in.

Kallas267
Britain refers to the collective group of cultures that inhabit the British Isles. The English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish all are British - that definition has been slowly shifting because, well, people don't want to be associated with England or the British Empire any more for various, often very valid reasons; and also because people (especially the English and Americans) misuse the term.
But the various Scottish accents *are* British accents.
RunawaySpoons
I mean, Ms Pennie herself classes it as a British accent, *because* Scotland is British…
English colonialism has already done far too much damage within Britain and Ireland, let's not keep perpetuating it.
(Colonialism elsewhere in the world is more rightly called British colonialism. And yes that includes Scottish people being part of it.)
