It's gay pride month or gay wrath month. Choose wisely.

Ever notice how the people saying "Who will think of the Vets?" are often the same ones who voted to cut their funding?

pridemonth

My complaint is that it is named after the most boring of the deadly sins. Pride started as a riot. It should be Gay WRATH month.

Jokes aside. Just let people be HAPPY.

Their research consists of searching for what they want their answer to be, and finding others that agree with them.

I tend to consider February 14th to be Straight Pride Day.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dan Savage says it's Halloween. Everyone puts on their outlandish slutty outfits and goes out to party.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here's an upvote from an 80 y/o straight grandfather! I'll be at my local gathering, offering free hugs! Too many kids get cut off by their families. Be my grandchild!

"Men's mental health month" could be spent teaching self-reflection and intellectual honesty. That'd help with their mental health truckloads. Stop trying to impress your mates. They ain't your mates. They're your competition masquerading as your mates.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've solved that problem: I don't have any mates any more.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, same. They never liked me, they liked what I did for them, and they never reciprocated that.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, being a man, a vet, and a member of the lgbtqia+ community are not exclusionary. But some folks sure want it to be.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

a vet and queer? did you join before or after DADT?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just asking, what is November for the military? I know may is Military Appreciation Month.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

November is National Veterans and Military Families Month

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Gotcha, thank you for answering

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We both know that nobody has been persecuted for being straight, but do not underestimate conservatives’ victim complex. They WILL come up with an example to spin.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only people that ever should be oppressed are the ultra rich.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I choose wrath. Some of these 'phobes need to learn their place.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This will come in handy. I'm taking it. Thank you.

We are entering election season and they have a pedophile to protect and now gas prices and inflation.
So don't expect logic and facts going forward.
Contrived nonsense is going to explode on social media. Homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, xenophobia, all have demonstrated good vote getting among the easily conned. Sharia law.
Make no mistake, someone right now is coming up with the new "they are eating cats and dogs" or "caravans from Venezuela".

I am a straight, white veteran, and I don't need a day, or a month. I'm fine, thanks.

Whining about any celebration of being white is like getting all Cs in high school, graduating, but bitching you aren't valedictorian.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i choose gay wrath.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

and veterans can suck my dick.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Something something gay lust.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

can I get both? I'm into kinky stuff.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Only thing stopping you is gay sloth. Gayziness, if you may.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

lmao, I'm gayzy as fuck sadly also queerpressed

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Also, every month is White History Month.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

im straight and proud of it, but i dont "need" a month and parades for it because im not an insecure little bitch that will melt if i dont get attention. the gays DESERVE their month and parades for all of the shit they've had to put up with through the centuries. celebrating one thing does not mean excluding others. im going to be proud of my sexuality while i help the gays celebrate theirs!

2 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

If you think about it, weddings are kind of like a tiny straight pride parade. Gay marriage does exist now, of course, but that's a fairly recent development

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hmm. So men's mental health month coincides with no-nut november

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m not sure where to begin. We can celebrate people to help support them. If someone likes someone or we just want to make sure folks are okay, why are we opposing this?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's almost like the hypocrites are all hypocrites. Don't listen to them, and be proud

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

THEY. DON'T. CARE. They just want an excuse to hate. They won't care if you prove them wrong. They'll move the goalposts or just ignore you. You can't argue or reason with them.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Keep in mind that in some instances you're not arguing with them, you're arguing for the audience who may not know such things.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We should steal the term "straight pride" to mean "straight people who support the pride movement"
In general i am in favor of stealing symbols and names from bad people and using them for positive things.

Dude ... Whoa.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

But you can hit them with sticks quite easily

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thinking some of these complainers are capable of doing proper research, is bit of a stretch tho

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

That’s all well and good, but I don’t see why black history month gets February, the worst month of the year. Can’t they get a summer month as well? Why not July since America was built on their backs?

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's called Juneteenth. But it's not a whole month, and I understand your feelings about February.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's not like these months are given out by some authority - your org can just choose a month and that's it. If they chose Feb that's on them.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Gerald Ford, the sitting president in 1976, made it a month long national celebration. Last time I checked he wasn’t black, so I think there’s some wiggle room there…

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The celebration actually predates him. The originator picked February because that's the month Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass was born in. https://www.britannica.com/story/why-is-black-history-month-celebrated-in-february

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You’re referring to “Negro History Week”, which black history month was based off of. Not the same thing

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If it's something official by the government that's a different story. But that only is applicable to federal/national acts of the respective nation. https://media4.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPWE1NzM3M2U1Z3NzaGl2MXdyNzV4NXNlYnpxNjM2NWFjam90YW9pamliZzNqcnFzbCZlcD12MV9naWZzX3NlYXJjaCZjdD1n/eLvhchyvNNOuLbOtYP/200w.webp

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The president of the united states made it official in 1976. We’re clearly referring to the US and not France or Botswana, so what’s your point?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My point is "nobody gives a shit about what the president of the fucking US says". Stop acting as if Pride or Black History are only a thing of one nation!

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I honestly cant wait for the Kink at pride discourse to start again

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Feels like it becomes "Kink at Pride" just out of spite, but then it would just be proving them right.

Really can't win for losing with those individuals.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

realistically, if you want to be your festival to be family friendly, probably shouldnt have Kink there. Iv always been on the side of large day time events should be family friendily while having after hours parties at clubs.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Before anyone gets shitty about the idea that least SOME of pride should be ‘family friendly’: there are gay kids, too. And they need that support MORE than a grown adult with a kink.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

More than that, if you want to change society to be more tolerant, you have to start with teaching kids when they are young. Having kink and making events for adults only means kids will start to view it as something bad and avoid it. You need e events to be family friendly

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

if you want your festival to be family friendly* fuck I cannot type today

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

June is Pride for me, the rest of the year is Gay Sloth or Gay Lust, with a side of Gay Gluttony.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

November is gay gluttony. February is gay list.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

*lust

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As one of the straights, must ask, what month is Gay Wrath? Just so I know when to keep my head down and avoid any unfortunate misunderstandings.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ironically - also June.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair enough

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just watch out for flying bricks :)

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The people complaining about pride both know that and dont care

2 months ago | Likes 216 Dislikes 4

They're just mad that "the gays" know how to party better.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This comment is great because it sounds like it's just two people complaining, and neither of them care

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do enjoy that we only mentioned men's mental health month because women don't whine about this shit to nearly the same degree.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree they don't care but I think they are also completely ignorant about most of the points raised in the post.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

100%. I run into plenty of people who claim they're fine with it, but just don't want it shoved in their face. They actually think this way. It takes a little bit of time but most see the hypocrisy in their stance after a while, and a few even change their mind about it. Most don't (at least not in the near term)

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well some of them wont know that. Many of them are stupid but usually the opposition is deeply disingenuous because they want to pretend its not about rank bigotry while we all know it is.

2 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

Took my brother about an hour to get around to the fact that he couldn't define anything about "white culture" besides "christian" and "european", and being reminded he didn't want to be european didn't help.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

yeah some of them don't seem to know anything except that they "hate the woke left"

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

They all know these things, it's simply that their talking points on different topics aren't meant to be put together into any cohesive whole.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I agree that most of them probably do know that... but I think assuming any individual in the group that gets worked up over this or any other reasonable thing that in no way affects them know ANYTHING is giving them more credit than is probably reasonable.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Straight people aren't excluded from pride celebrations either. Which is more than you can say for the reverse. We welcome our friends to come celebrate with us.

2 months ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 2

Hell yes. I’m cis/straight but I spent a lot of the early 90s in Manchester’s Gay Village because it was the only place you could get off your tits and dance to techno till 4am. That’s how I ended up with so many gay friends. What has now become Pride (ticketed, fenced off) used to be called Mardi Gras ( free, mad) and we all went every year

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"But the event doesn't focus on *me* so I feel uncomfortable!"

2 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Attending the various LGBTQAI+ events here, my rough feeling is that they're like 50% straight people. Which, in my view, is great.

2 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I have some straight friends who always go to pride with me, we all have a blast

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Hell yeah. I love seeing the "dads of queers" and "I'm not gay but my best friend is" and etc shirts at the festivals haha

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

One of my friends wore one last year that had a tumbler of whiskey and said "i drink my whiskey straight, but my friends go either way"

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

As a straight person, pride events have never bothered me-- its a bunch of happy people, dancing, marching, and playing music. What's not to like? They aren't hurting anybody. Even if they ran down the street naked, I live in Montreal where there's an annual naked bike ride. People just laugh and move on.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Every few years somebody tries to register a "Straight is great" float in a pride parade expecting to have some gotcha moment about the tolerant left when they get denied.

As far as I know they always chicken out when they find out that they're approved but sandwiched between a bunch of biker bears and a float of overprotective dads.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, I attended multiple times when I was younger. I went with gay friends but that's not a requirement. Now I have a trans kid and looking forward to when they'll be going.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Why wait? I see lots of kids at the pride festivals. I don't think it's a bad thing or harmful. I've had kids/parents come up to me and ask me about being a furry and how to get a fursuit. I'd sooner trust kids at a festival with the occasional random naked person than, say, a church.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh I can't go anymore bc I have fibromyalgia. :( Parades are a thing of the past for me. My kid is only 10 but when they're old enough to go with friends, I'm fine with it.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a Vet. I don't need a month. Just give me 2 days. One for the dead, one for the living. We already do that? Never mind than.

2 months ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 1

vets don't deserve nothing, why should we praise you for invading other countries.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

Here, here

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A month is also terrible foresight. We only get 12 of those, days are much better, plus if it is a day its easier to argue a national holiday.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How about, alongside the recognition, we also give proper care and support to vets. Less hero worship, more hero care.

2 months ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 1

I'm down for that!!!

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would like this. I didn't do what I did for a thank you, although it's nice, but taking care of us afterwards isn't too much to ask.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a vet, I'd take those things instead of the recognition.
I don't want your half hearted "thank you for your service"es. I want someone to help me with the ptsd and anxiety I've gotten from said service. I'd love to be able to drive without suspecting every other driver is a possible vbied.

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

“Hero”

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How about less "Hero." I'm a veteran myself. Virtually none of us enlisted because of pride and patriotism and self sacrifice and all the rest of that star spangled bullshit. The vast majority of veterans enlisted for the same reasons: Free college, free healthcare, 3 hots and a cot, and an attempt to improve their position in life in their early 20's. ie: Things that we could obtain in most first world countries without going to war with 3rd world ones, if the US wasn't shit.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No more performative "support the troops" bumper sticker shit. Gotta pay to play, buddy.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This right here. I'm tired of being told to stand and sit for anthems and salute and pray and remember and shit. How about we just take care of the people in our country, regardless of who they are?

2 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

And to clarify, standing and sitting and saluting and praying and remembering never put a meal in a hungry person's stomach or a roof over their head.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

As a vet I dislike when people say “thank you for your service”. That and veneration for “first responders “ helps to create a separation in our society. We are all the same. Everyone deserves respect. Everyone deserves a voice. Everyone deserves equal justice. The LGBTQ+ community deserves to live their lives their way. The same for minorities, seniors and children. I served for all of them. Thank you for letting me serve.

2 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I tried to explain the awkwardness to my wife when we were dating. Once we lived together and started going everywhere together, she started to get it.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly it was a job; plus we all did some shit that was either terrible, awesome, some mixture of it all, or horrifying to the point we have trauma. I dont want to be thanked every time I mention it, but I did my time.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just nod and say thank you back. No one wants to hear the actual stories.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A while back I saw someone advise the response, "It was my honor to serve." Been using that ever since.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just say thank you back.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see your point. Disclosure im also a vet. Its important to note that the "tradition" of thanking US service members for their service came as a propaganda attempt to separate anger and backlash towards US participation in Vietnam from the service members who were drafted and forced to fight in Vietnam and were being mistreated as a result.

2 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I agree that the original intent was the resolve the isolation and abandonment that Viet Nam Vets felt. The actual cause of that isolation and abandonment was as government policy in the execution of the war. But the creation of divisions within society undermines the country. We are all different people and deserve to celebrate who we are, but we are ALL in this together. Common success starts with common respect.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Okay... I slept. I feel you are under the mis-impression that it's the "thank you for your service" creating the division. As opposed to the actual consequences of service the creates it. We ask our service members to do things no normal person would ever be asked. Military service members sacrifice body and soul in their service and that has lasting ramifications for both them and society. With PTSD, homelessness, drug use and physical disability all being factors we have to consider.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do not believe the “thank you” created the division in society, but has become a method of reinforcing the division. The best thank you is taking care of veterans, only commuting them to a just cause and if a draft is ever again imposed, it must be universally applied. Sadly, a significant number of highly trained senior leaders are being cast aside for clear partisan reasons. This will weaken the service and reputation of the country if (when) atrocities occur.
