Always lead with the doggo

How lucky am I

Yeah baby

Can we get out yet?

A few people last post asked about my diet and exercise so I'm posting what I ate today. I do healthy keto. Breakfast of champions: Half and half with protein powder and chia seeds and hemp seeds, couple of Brazil nuts, gummy vitamins, pill vitamins/supplements, creatine and HMB and potassium in the little jar. I don't make enough of certain liver enzymes so I take them to help with that but the creatine and HMB are also great for helping build and maintain muscle. Creatine is needed to produce atp energy and I definitely notice it when I stop taking it for a few days.

Lara dried fruit and nut bar with ricotta cheese and more protein powder for a snack before my hike. I made hot chocolate with half and half, water, Lilly's no sugar chocolate chips, and a squirt of caramel macchiato monk fruit sweetener. Stopped halfway to enjoy that from the thermos. Best. Idea. Ever. I ate the think bar and the apple in the car on the way home. Nom. This is double carb day because I do double my usual miles. I just like to have an extra treat. I took the pecans but didn't end up eating any.

Herbal tea and chicken not pie. Cook a whole chicken and debone it. I like the instant pot because I end up with chicken bone broth and its super easy to pull all the bones out. You could use whatever you want including a rotisserie chicken. You'll have to buy chicken broth though or make your own from the bones. Frozen mixed veggies, salt pepper dried minced onion garlic, mix it all into the chicken broth, add some xantham gum or thickener of your choice if desired. There is corn and peas and carrots, and technically I should probably count those carbs, but I don't and I have not noticed negative effects.

Macros for today. That doesn't include the chicken broth or the veggies bc I am too lazy to figure out how to count them. Right now my actual carb goal is about 30 net carbs from fruit, potatoes, starchy veggies, or grains when I occasionally eat them. I don't count dairy, nuts and seeds, or veggie carbs and I find that works for me but YMMV. I am trying for 1800 calories minimum; I tend to undereat and then I am exhausted and starving and have massive cravings. Right now I'm not restricting calories. I have maintained my weight over the holidays and with starting climbing and more strength training, and I'm happy to be building muscle without gaining. I only started climbing about 6 weeks ago so my body is still adjusting and my metabolism went nuts there for a minute. I am weighing in weekly and if I start to gain I will make adjustments. Eventually I will adjust carbs and calories to start losing again but I'm giving myself time to adapt to the new routine and figure out where my carbs should be. My shiny new metabolism came with a learning curve and I have bonked a couple of times which is no fun at all. Just remember it's all a learning process figuring out what's working for you and what you could do better. Things are always going to be changing and you will learn and adapt. The important thing is to keep trying.
